I read the letter from the

member who was upset by the choice of no longer supporting the cancer campaign (May edition of VFW Auxiliary Magazine). I thought years ago that we should have been doing more fi nancially for our veterans because they were becoming more and more in need of our services and we all know what those problems were and still are. It’s not enough to shake a hand and say thank you. In the meantime, the cancer crusade has raised

billions of dollars from all different sources; making it one of the most-funded services nationwide. My problem is: Where are the results, where are the answers? As she said, cancer numbers are not diminishing in spite of all the money. It is more gratifying that our veterans, who are really suffering in so many ways, get the results of all we can give them, for that’s what we are about.

for the Dates/Deadlines Page, and joyfully, I found what I was searching for. I am grateful that those in leadership with the

VFW Auxiliary and with the magazine chose to add to the listing of these signifi cant dates – Labor Day, Patriot Day, Constitution Day, National POW/ MIA Day and others – September 27, Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day. On July 16, 2011, my son’s Blue Star turned to

Gold and I became a Gold Star Mother as my only son, U.S. Army Cpl. Frank R. Gross, gave his life in service of our nation, Operation Enduring Freedom. It is with gratitude to the Auxiliary leadership that 6,000-plus U.S. Gold Star families are acknowledged and honored through the simple act of publishing this date in our VFW Auxiliary Magazine.
