LOIS CALLAHAN Legislative Ambassador:
• Consider visiting veterans’ homes and helping residents subscribe to the VFW Action Corps Weekly e-newsletter. It’s a great way to help veterans continue to be active in society and the legislative process.
One of Callahan’s fellow Auxiliary members, Melissa Mangini of Auxiliary 5543, meets with her father and his veteran friends every week to discuss Action Corps topics.
JOYCE BILYEU Membership Ambassador:
• In November, tell all veterans you are so thankful for their service to our country. Find out if they have a family member who is eligible to join the Auxiliary. Tell them you would like to invite that family member to join the Auxiliary as a way to honor and show thanks for their service.
• In December, buy a family member a Life Membership to the Auxiliary as a holiday gift.
• Have a special welcome dinner, lunch or breakfast for men who are eligible to join the Auxiliary.
LAURIE DALE Veterans & Family Support Ambassador:
• For Veterans Day – Take “Buddy”® Poppies to schools to hand out to students and faculty, hold a “Buddy”® Poppy drive or take “Buddy”® Poppies to nursing homes and other care facilities to hand out.
• For Christmas – Use “Buddy”® Poppies for decorations at Post Home and care facilities.
• Host a Christmas party for veterans and help them with any needs they have, hand out the new resource rack card, and connect them with a VSO. Tell them about their benefi ts and give a small gift if you can.
