In Scuba Diving: Underwater
Adventures, you will read about the process of learning to safely explore underwater worlds.
In Spelunking, you will learn about a
popular adventure sport that takes place underground.
In Baseball Basics, you will read about the rules of baseball and different types of pitches.
READ!
First, you will read an article and answer questions that ask you to cite evidence from the text.
THINK!
Ten, you will answer questions using information from the article, solve math problems, and explain your thinking.
WRITE!
Finally, it’s time to write! You will use information from the sources you read to write one or more of the following: a short story, a problem- solution essay, or an editorial. Each of these genres fits into a text type, as you can see below.
Narrative Short Story
A short story is a brief story that has a full plot, at least one character, and a conflict that is resolved.
Informative/ Explanatory
Solution Essay
A problem-solution essay describes a problem and different ways to solve it.
Problem- Opinion Editorial
An editorial is a piece of writing that expresses the author’s opinion.
