VODKA COCKTAILS

he Moscow Mule has ambled back on to menus of late and is now the

most popular vodka drink in the world’s best bars, but what vodka makes the best rendition? Ketel One, was the answer in a quarter of bars, followed by Absolut and 86 Company’s Aylesbury Duck. There aren’t too many bars that won’t rustle up a Bloody Mary. Once again, Ketel One is the overwhelming choice, with a third of bars using the brand. Absolut trails and Wyborowa is making up the numbers.

If it’s a Cosmo, bartenders will also likely reach for Ketel One. No Ketel One? Then Absolut. No Absolut? Then Grey Goose.

GIN COCKTAILS

he second most popular cocktail in the world’s best bars is the Negroni. Given that the Campari is a given, the question is what gin do you use? The answer that came back from our poll was emphatic. It was Tanqueray, said just under a half of respondents, though Beefeater, another juniper-led London Dry, wasn’t far behind with a third of the vote. Brand owner Pernod Ricard’s Plymouth came in third. The Dry Martini offers little shelter for a gin. In the hallowed Martini glass, Tanqueray is the most popular choice, while Beefeater was a strong second. 86 Company’s Fords is the small- brand choice.

T

Aviation is the third most popular gin classic. Use Beefeater, said a quarter of respondents. Tanqueary is a good choice and Plymouth was a distant third.
