Live the Adventure Britain’s most renowned river expert is training construction workers along the Thames in London to help combat health and safety issues. Ant Eddies-Davies, who runs Live the Adventure in Shropshire, has been

tapped-up for his rescue skills, having previously trained everyone from international defence forces to emergency services in how to stay safe on the water. With so much building work taking place alongside one of London’s prime

access routes, this particular project will see Ant giving vital training to some of Britain’s leading construction firms on major projects around the capital’s leading building ventures. Working with the likes of McAlpine and Balfour Beatty, much of the work will

be undertaken in Canary Wharf, London’s vibrant business and financial district. Observing appropriate

practice near to water’s edge is crucial to ensuring the well-being of workers and, ultimately, the construction and long- term durability of buildings. Ant hopes his

expertise and experience will ensure the correct procedures are fulfilled: “We have run courses

this year for a number of leading construction

companies who are building alongside the water’s edge,” he said, “Regulations mean everyone working near water needs to have proper safety training and protection. It makes a lot of financial sense for companies to bring us in to help train their staff rather than pay water patrols for months on end. This is a great project to be involved with and I hope my knowledge will ensure the staff are fully up to speed with the correct procedures.” Live the Adventure offers one of the most diverse ranges of professional

training programmes and courses in the UK. For further information visit or contact Live the Adventure on 01746718436.

26 ToolBUSINESS+HIRE New grinding machine installed in

the Master showroom Master Abrasives has been busy setting up a new showroom at its Daventry location for demonstrating precision grinding products including abrasives, dressers, and Micromatic grinding machines. Following the recent visit of an installation engineer from Micromatic Grinding Technologies, the eco 200 universal hydraulic cylindrical grinding machine is now installed and ready for demonstration in the Master showroom. Martin Stevens,

Technical Sales Representative for grinding machines and precision products, says “Having the eco 200 installed at our showroom facility will be a great aid in showing customers the capabilities of Micromatic machines. Demonstrations of the eco 200 can be arranged on request and we already have many interested customers who have scheduled their visit to see the machine.” The high-performance brand of MASTER® grinding wheels and dressers will

be available to use in demonstration of the eco 200 to provide efficient grinding and surface finishing. The showroom machine is set up with a coolant application nozzle system by Cool-Grind Technologies, providing accurate coolant flow and pressure to the process. This gives visitors the opportunity to see Grind-Loc nozzles in action and understand how they can help to achieve optimum performance from grinding processes. Q8Oils has worked with Master Abrasives to supply the suitable oils and

cutting fluid for the eco 200 U demonstration machine. The team of technical experts has provided products to improve the operational efficiency and optimise the production process.

“It does everything we expect

it to…” So says Kenny Hume of B&K Hume Groundworks of Greenlaw in the Scottish Borders as he reflects on his recent purchase of a Volvo ECR88D. The machine has been supplied by Volvo’s utility dealer for Central and Southern Scotland – Rockbreakers UK Ltd. The ECR88D was chosen following a demonstration that was arranged with

the Volvo dealer earlier in the year. “We had a smaller, two-and-a-half tonne EC25 a few years back which worked for 6000 trouble free hours. This prompted us to change it for another which is performing equally well, but we were a little unsure about going for the larger machine from Volvo over the model we were running,” explains co Director Kenny Hume. “Tommy Lynch at Rockbreakers organised to put the ECR88D on demonstration for us, and we were that impressed with the digging performance and all-round stability that the machine wasn’t returned!” he continues. The Volvo ECR88D is highly regarded in the marketplace for its economical

use of fuel and closed-centre, load-sensing hydraulic system. The machine offers a generous horizontal reach of 7.3 metres and a lift capacity of 960kg at full reach across the carriage. Operator comfort and excellent access to all the service points have added to the overall appreciation of the machine. And since making the decision to purchase the machine, the family-owned

ground working business run by father Bob and sons Kenny and Paul has been extremely pleased with its decision. “It certainly does everything we ask of it, and, so far, we’re delighted with every aspect of the larger machine from Volvo,” says Kenny Hume. “Not only that, we’ve developed a good relationship with Rockbreakers, who seem to go the extra mile to help us on parts supply and technical advice.” For further information visit
