DSL SYSTEMS OPERATIONS MANAGER DSL Systems have appointed Rob Sinclair as Operations Manager. Rob has a wealth of experience in operations and service through roles with Homag UK, Sky and UPS. This is a new position created at DSL due to continued growth and expansion. OBITUARY – DR JANICE HARLAND Feed Compounder is sad to report the death of Dr Janice Harland who passed away in February aged 62 after a short battle with cancer. Dr Harland graduated from Newcastle University with a BSc
in Agricultural Biochemistry and Nutrition, before taking a PhD on the effective use of fibre in animal feed and its effect on methane production. Her involvement in the feed sector began at British Sugar where
she was appointed as technical marketing manager for Trident Feeds, before being made British Sugar’s head of nutritionand director of The Sugar Bureau. Dr Harland played an active role in the British Society of Animal
Science (BSAS) of which she was the press officer for a number of years. She was also awarded the BSAS Sir John Hammond Memorial Prize in 1995 for her outstanding contribution to animal science. In 1996 Dr Harland joined Dalgety Agriculture as marketing
and technical manager before leaving two years later to start her own consultancy business advising on nutrition issues relating both to human food and animal feed. She was the joint author of two books on plant-based eating, and also worked part time lecturing on nutrition at Bath Spa University. In 2016 was made a Fellow of the Association for Nutritionists.
