GRAHAM ELIAS Quality & Environmental Manager

properly and on time, this is seen throughout the company by all members of the management team and staff.

The vast majority of my training was “on the job in a live environment”, I feel this is a fantastic way to learn and far better than reading manual after manual. S&G have operated this tried and tested method for many years and the high quality of staff which we have working for us proves this point.

I feel that S&G will continue to grow and by using some of the stepping stones which we have laid already, we will continue to get better and better and continue to be seen as a leader in our field of expertise.

This is a very exciting year for S&G, I am proud to be part of it and to be a piece of the jigsaw which has helped the company into its 100th year having the need to do so for over a decade.

I started at S&G on 10th November 1975 and began my four year apprenticeship. I clearly remember thinking that four years was a lifetime. Now in my 37th year it’s hard to believe all this time has passed by!

I started in production preparing the print for the old letterpress machines and then I became the first person to work in the new Planning Department. I then progressed to managing the department and in turn deputy Production Manager, eventually moving to SGC Printing. I took up my current position of Quality Manager about twelve years ago and this has included the environmental side of things for the last couple of years.

I am very proud to have witnessed and hopefully contributed in some small way to the Company’s growth and success. Of course things are done in a far more professional way these days and proof of our progress is reflected in the regular compliments we receive which always seems to impress the ISO Auditors and helps to make all our efforts worthwhile.

I have been here all my working life (although sometimes it feels like I have been here for the whole hundred years) it means a lot to see that we are still going strong and I feel very proud that the Company has reached this milestone.

DAI BEVANS Production Co-ordinator

I started in February 1986, when Bill Bird, convinced me that Maths and Physics A levels were better suited to a career in printing than the degree in Mechanical Engineering I was studying at the time

My first few months in a “proper” job were a little bit of a culture shock, I was actually expected to work for my money! When I first started at S&G it was a much smaller company and the initial training I received as a four colour planner I would describe as fairly basic, but with the continued growth and success the Company has enjoyed, the training is now far more structured and professional.

I first started as a trainee 4 colour planner, since manual planning was replaced by CTP in the late 1990’s I thoroughly enjoy my role as Production co-ordinator and the various challenges it brings.

The amount the Company invests in state of the art technology, coupled with strong family values that are still very evident make S&G stand out from the rest.

S&G must ensure we maintain our position as one of the best and most respected sheet fed printers in the UK. I do feel a sense of pride that I have played a small part in S&G’s success during the last 25 years.
