INVESTING IN OUR PEOPLE Apprentice to Manager
SIMON DAVIES Commercial Director
AT S&G PRINT GROUP WE UNDERSTAND THAT IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN OUR COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE; WE NEED TO NOT ONLY INVEST IN THE LATEST PRINTING TECHNOLOGY, BUT ALSO INVEST IN OUR PEOPLE
In the latest edition of our internal magazine Communicator, we featured our most recent additions to S&G, our apprentices.
Throughout the history of our Company, we have had a policy of educating whilst “on the job” and the rewards of this policy are evident in our continued success and retention of many key clients.
Many of our current senior managers are long term employees of S&G and in addition to this, a number of them began their life at S&G as apprentices.
We speak with a few of our senior figures and ask them what it means to them to be part of S&G as we embark on our centenary in the British printing industry.

DAI BEVANS Production Co-ordinator
I started at S&G on February 24th 1986, the same day as Dai Bevans our current Production Co-ordinator. I was 17 years of age and straight from school and I found the whole work thing a little bit of a culture shock
However as the weeks and months went by I got more and more used to it and I suppose you could say I am part of the fabric right now. We were both employed as apprentice 4 colour planners a job that became defunct in the late 1990’s early 2000’s when the industry went CTF (Computer to Film) and then more recently CTP (Computer to Plate), where we find ourselves today.
I have had a thorough and extensive career at S&G to date. My roles have included to name a few, apprentice planner, qualified planner, Planning Manager, Production Manager, General Manager SGC Printing, Sales Executive, Commercial Manager and I’m currently Commercial Director. This has seen me involved in the front end of the business through to the pressroom and also involvement with customers through my time in sales. This has definitely helped me in my current role where I have involvement in pricing, and customer visits (Internal & External), right through to daily production meetings.
