PAL employee qualifies as an
accountant We are delighted to announce that one of our employees has passed the AAT exam to become a fully qualified accountant.
Elisha-Spence Lees, 21, was awarded the certificate after studying for a series of exams over a three and a half year period. Elisha, who
has been with PAL since 2012 decided to embark on the course after showing an interest in further education and started studying just weeks after joining the company. PAL Hire works closely with a number of
education providers to offer growth and development opportunities for every single employee. Company Director Dan Daintry said, “We,
as a company, know only too well the benefits of nurturing talent within the business. “Elisha has worked hard to gain her qualification and has been wholly committed to becoming an accountant. “She has embraced the opportunities
given to her and it has been a pleasure watching her grow within the business. “I look forward to seeing what she will undoubtedly achieve.” Elisha added, “I’ve enjoyed studying for
the AAT and am really pleased that I have been able to achieve this qualification and build a career. “I am now looking forward to watching as
much television as I want. I’ve put together a list of programmes I am going to get through. “For the past few years, whenever I’ve wanted to watch something, I’ve usually had a report or homework to do. It’s been challenging but I am so pleased I’ve got there. “I’m really grateful to PAL Hire who have
helped me and supported me since the beginning, especially the directors, support staff and management team. I would like to say a huge thanks to them all.” With over 133,000 members worldwide,

Recycle more and your favourite community group could benefit
That’s the message from Salford City Council which is launching a new recycling reward scheme to boost recycling rates in the city.
Recycling rates in each of the city’s eight neighbourhoods will be monitored month by month. Wherever recycling rates go up, local good causes or community groups in that area can benefit. Now the call is out for local good causes or
community groups to come forward and pitch to be included in the scheme. Councillor Gena Merrett, executive lead
member for housing and environment, said, “Salford residents have done a fantastic job pushing recycling rates up to 42%, but this is an incentive for them to do more. “Every month groups in each neighbourhood
can ask for a reward of up to £1000 in value. They have to be projects which are based in and working in Salford and which benefit the local community. “All requests will be considered from buying
equipment to repairing a building to putting on an event. We will buy goods and services on behalf of the causes, rather than giving out cash grants. “Residents can then vote online for the
causes they think are most worthy and if recycling in that neighbourhood goes up, the good causes which received the most votes will win their reward. “We have free internet access through all our
Gateways to help people vote. If recycling rates don’t increase, the money for that area will roll over to the next month. “We’re asking community groups, local
people and projects to come forward and tell us what they would like funding for to help us launch the scheme. If their cause is selected we will encourage them to push recycling to their members, networks and community. “Recycling is vital because we can’t keep
burying waste in the ground. It costs the council £300 to dispose of one tonne of general waste whereas we earn £25 for every tonne of recycled waste. Every tonne we can divert from landfill means we can generate income to support essential public services and it’s better for the environment.” The scheme, which is totally funded by a £200,000 government grant, will start on

B&M invest in CPR training
for all staff Carbon Neutral waste management company B&M Waste Services have this month furthered their commitment to the health and safety of all staff through conducting CPR resuscitation training for all staff.
From office to operational and driving staff, all employees were certified by i2 training, and the company has furthered their investment by purchasing 3 defibrillators to
be located across all B&M sites. David Curtis, Director at B&M Waste
Services said, “The tragic accident in Glasgow earlier this year where a waste operator of a competitor had a heart attack at the wheel acted as a sombre reminder that first aid is highly important. “We have a vigilant induction and ongoing
H&S training programme in place for all employees, and this additional training means those vital minutes between someone not breathing and emergency services arriving would be covered by any member of the B&M team using their CPR training and the defibrillators located across our offices and operational facilities. Ann McMurrie, EQHSC Manager said,
“We urge other companies to follow suit. We have 11 fully qualified first aiders, but this particular training of all staff of this single skill could definitely save someone’s live. “Staff now feel empowered to deal with a
life and death situation should the need ever arise. It really is a vital life skill.”
December 1st and will run until March 2017 and is available for the community, providing recycling increases. It aims to boost recycling and decrease
the amount of waste going to landfill by three per cent which could save the council around £420,000 between now and March 2017. The city’s eight neighbourhoods are:
Claremont and Weaste; East Salford; Eccles; Irlam and Cadishead; Walkden and Little Hulton; Ordsall and Langworthy; Swinton and Pendlebury; Worsley and Boothstown. Details of the scheme and how to apply
