& LOWS December/January
A look back at what was hot and what was not in 2014 gave us a cracker of an issue for December/January. It was the end of what was an amazing year at Skip Hire Magazine with the launch of our first ever WASTE exhibition. There were lots of big issues bubbling away in the waste sector too and we began the year as we intended to go on, by taking at in-depth look at some of them.
February HIGH
“Tippy”, a female yellow-bellied terrapin, was found abandoned near a waste recycling centre in Edinburgh and, luckily for her, handed into the SSPCA, (Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). The charity gave the tear-away terrapin her name because of the location she was found in
LOW The Environmental Services Association (ESA)
announced it was to bid farewell to its Director General Barry Dennis after 20 years with the association and more than 50 years in the waste management industry. Mr Dennis joined ESA’s predecessor NAWDC (National Association of Waste Disposal Contractors) in 1993.
2015 starts off with a bang as we begin planning for our second WASTE
exhibition in July, our tenth anniversary of the magazine in June and look forward to our TV debut in a new Sky Vision documentary in March.
HIGH We feature the HSE which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2015.
The non-departmental public body has been at the forefront of health and safety regulation in the workplace since its formation following the passing of the Health & Safety at Work act in 1974.

LOW Blackpool Council’s skip company folded amid much
controversy and with an estimated cost to tax payers of £30,000. It was hoped that some of that money would be recouped when the council sold its skips to private skip companies. >
