Ferrari Land

Just one week before

Easter – on April 7 – guests at PortAventura World will get their first full taste of Ferrari Land, the 'third gate' at this, Spain's no.1 theme park resort and one of the top 10 in

Europe. Yet last month, ahead of Euro Attractions Show (EAS) in Barcelona, a group of attractions industry

representatives were given

their own private glimpse of what lies in store at this

relatively small yet perfectly-

formed park dedicated to the prestigious motoring brand

PortAventura's new park progressing nicely

A

ccording PortAventura World representatives, construction of the park has entered its home straight,

with the main building work already completed. The larger-scale attractions, including the race circuit and the simulator area, are also nearing completion. One of Ferrari Land’s most iconic attractions – the 'vertical accelerator' LSM launch coaster – will be the highest rollercoaster in Europe and soon begin testing. The exclusive premier of Ferrari Land on September 19, part of a day-long tour of

PortAventura World enjoyed by selected EAS attendees, involved an itinerary designed to ensure visitors previewed the most important and unique elements of the €100 million project.. Ferrari test driver Marc Gené revealed details as follows:

“Attractions like the vertical accelerator will allow visitors to experience first-hand some of the sensations of driving a Formula 1 racing car. It’s a park for all ages, where even the youngest members of the family can discover the legendary spirit of Ferrari”.

PortAventura World's general manager for operations,

Fernando Aldecoa, considers the progress to be most positive: “We are very pleased with how the project is developing and initial estimates still foresee construction works being finalised this year, and the park fully operational in time for the official opening in April 2017”. Spread across 60,000 square-metres (almost 15 acres), much of Ferrari Land will be outdoors. unlike Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. Primarily the park will be aimed at families, just like the rest of PortAventura World, but there will also be plenty to occupy thrill seekers. The aforementioned launch coaster, by Intamin, already stands an impressive 112m high – 36m taller than PortAventura's existing Shambhala coaster – and will reach a speed of 180kmh in just five seconds. Three 12-seater trains will provide an hourly capacity of around 1,200. Also promised are two “bounce-back” tower rides by S&S and a range of attractions for young and old. Both adults and children, for example, are invited to try

the eight F1 simulators by Marty & Kelly, Zamperla is supplying a custom-themed Speedway 'Whip' ride with eight cars, while another centrepiece of the park will be the 1km-long race track with 32 mini F1 cars by C&S. Food and drink outlets and other surprises have yet to be revealed, but are expected to include a 'trattoria' style restaurant and other guest facilities set amongst replica iconic Italian buildings. The theme park dedicated to the Prancing Horse” and

celebrating the legacy of Enzo Ferrari is expected to transform PortAventura World into an internationally- renowned holiday destination with the offer of three theme parks (also including PortAventura park and Costa Caribe waterpark) 2,100 rooms spread across 5 hotels and a unique range of food, drink and entertainment options.
