Park in Bavaria –where it appears as Sky Dragster – has been developed together with Maurer rides boss Jörg Beutler's company Beutler Transport Syteme (BTS) GmbH. The ride system features a vertical rail rather than standard coaster track, on which riders take control of their own 100 bhp vehicles. The monorail-style track allows the cars to manoeuvre through much tighter radii than a regular rollercoaster, while the rack and pinion drive means they can travel up steep climbs in all weathers. Originally developed for PRT (personal rapid transit) applications in areas as diverse as mining and container terminals, BTS is now working with Maurer to use the Spike technology to create a range of rollercoasters that can power through previously impossible ride layouts.
Wave Breaker at SeaWorld San Antonio
Coming to SeaWorld San Antonio in summer 2017, Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster is a new jetski coaster and the first of its kind in North America. From Intamin, it is similar to an existing ride at the unconneced Sea World park on the Gold Coast in Australia, and engages riders in a straddled seating position. The design will allow riders to lean into a series
of banked and serpentine turns, and grip the handle bars as they race over air time humps and a pair of high acceleration launches. Reaching heights of up to 61 feet (19 m) and a top speed of 44 mph (71 kph), the majority of the coaster’s 2,600 foot (792 m) track will be directly over water, creating the sensation that riders are racing across the park’s Ski Lake. The minimum rider height requirement wil be 48” (1.2m). Other coaster experiences at the Texas marine
park include The Great White, a floorless steel coaste; Steel Eel, a megacoaster; and Shamu Express, a junior-sized ride.
nveiled to many curious amusement industry professionals at Euro Attractions Show (EAS) last month in Barcelona, Maurer has a new ride
Using interactive speed controls, passengers can perform accelerations of up to 1.2G, but speeds can be varied throughout the ride and the fastest part need not be at the start. Maurer says the technology also makes a good alternative to linear induction systems. A moving block zone means dispatch times as quick as
every five seconds can be deployed, allowing for more vehicles on the track than other single car coasters. Attractions can also be automated via a user-friendly control system. The German ride manufacturer believes the Spike system also offers a good solution for dark rides. Members of the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and invited guests from several large park operators met with Maurer representatives late last month to sample the test installation at Skyline Park, after which they were treated to some corporate hospitality at Oktoberfest. Luckily the beer drinking came after potential customers had chance to talk business.

Floorless coaster for California's Great America
The Cedar Fair operated California’s Great America, Santa Clara, will introduce the first floorless coaster experience in its 41-year history. From Bolliger & Mabillard, Patriot represents a relaunch of the park's Vortex coaster, the oldest stand up rollercoaster in the United States until it closes as the end of this season. The new-look attractions will takse riders to a height of 91ft (28m) before plummeting them into a 360° loop at 45 mph (7kmh). The transition from a stand up to floorless ride will include state-of-the-art blue and white trains positioning guests with their feet dangling above the blue and white track.
SeaWorld
Orlando 2017 Florida's SeaWorld Orlando has announced its planed improvements for 2017. Next summer the park will relaunch its B&M floorless coaster as Kraken Virtual Reality Roller Coaster, the only VR coaster experience in Florida. Guests will embark on an imaginary deep sea mission alongside marine creatures inspired by extinct and legendary animals of the past, including the mighty Kraken itself. SeaWorld Orlando’s Dolphin Nursery will become more interactive in 2017, with new digital displays and large- scale acrylic windows offering up close viewing to give kids a face-to-face perspective with dolphin calves. In the Nautilus Theatre, a new (as yet unanmed) summer show will debut as from May. Bringing the day to a close
Kraken VR
for many SeaWorld guests, however, will be Electric Ocean, a brand new end-of-day spectacle event. As the sun goes down, the lights and energy go up! Meanwhile a new SeaFire Grill and Flamecract Bar will open along the park's waterfront area. Finally, across the road at Aquatica, SeaWorld Orlando's Annual Pass Memmbers can take advantage of a new pavilion offering free sunscreen, a concierge service, an exclusive entrance to Banana Beach, private animal encounters and additional offers.
