Playoke – Kung Fu Panda style at City of Dreams Manila

In less than five years,

Attraktion! has developed a diverse range of media- based products and services

for the parks and attractions industry – and there's more to come. Here founder and

chief creative officer Markus Beyr (pictured below) shares his story

I LA Attraktion

Attraktion!'s headquarters are located in Vienna, wirh a second office in Marchtrenk, Austria, but the company also has representative offices in Singapore and now Los The LA office opens this month in response to requests from theme park and attraction designers and should allow the company's media- based attractions to be more easily integrated into designers' masterplans. “While we are very successful in emerging markets, we have not yet realised any projects in the US,” notes Beyr. “But we are near to announcing our first US projects soon.”

started Attraktion! In 2012 with the goal of inventing new genres for out-of-home entertainment. Our aim is to create attractions which use media as the storyteller and technology in the background to enable the media to deliver state-of-the-art emotional experiences at theme parks, family entertainment centres (FECs), shopping malls, science centres and other markets. Allow me talk you through a few of our key products: Playoke is a fun dance game that uses our patented 3D motion tracking software to measure movements to imitate a player's moves on screen. As well as pop songs and edutainment games, we can create custom content for clients using their own mascots and characters. Playoke has already found its way into venues such as Futuroscope in France and the DreamWorks Dreamplay experience at City of Dreams casino in Manila, complete with special Kung Fu Panda content, as well as countless FECs and sports venues. All of my life I have wanted to create a robotic product, and I am proud that we have created one of the first guidance and entertainment robots with the We Robots brand. Now we are looking at diversifying robotics, for example creating robotic shows. Having been active in the 4D market for the past 20

years, realising more than 200 projects worldwide, I still get requests for 4D theatres and domes, which we are happy to deliver at Attraktion! Our newest pneumatic 5D motion platform use a unique mechanism which is more accurate and more intense than other systems. Back in 2008, I invented the idea for a wet 4D theatre together with a waterpark operator from Austria. Attraktion!’s Cinesplash 5D now brings this concept to a new level with the option either of a theatre with water effects or a movie in a pool surrounded by waterfalls and effects. At Attraktion! we create our own content using a strong in- house CGI department to produce movies and games to the highest quality. We have a full library of attraction films in several formats. Our first production was Ruin, which we wanted to have more of a game feel than a typical 4D

movie. It was, and still is, quite unique in photorealistic quality. Recently we released Storm Riders, which is now available for licensing to 3D/4D theatres worldwide as well our Cinesplash5D water effects theatres, three more of which are on order for China, plus one very high profile installation in the UAE coming up at the end of this year. Although most of our design and manufacturing is done

here in Austria, we are happy to collaborate with strategic partners such as Intamin, with whom we are developing the first two Dome Ride Theaters for China. We like to think of this as the world’s most immersive attraction – wherever you look there is media – and the new, previously unexperienced perspectives this will provide, combined with an Intamin ride, will allow for an experience that is out of this world! In Penang, Malaysia, we are supplying several media-

based experiences to the skyscraper entertainment complex The Top, developed by the Only World Group. As well as a 5D dome and Playoke, one of these will be Sea Explorer 5D, based on an immersive 3 screen environment with moving platform and effects. It’s a very compact but thoroughly exciting format that we are getting many serious enquiries about. New collaborative products are in development at the moment with a variety of partners. Whatever we do, at Attraktion! we want to give it a unique twist!
