Attraction Profile
FlyOver America, a $20 million immersive theatre
experience, has opened as a standalone attraction at the Mall of America. Paul Ruben visits Minnesota to enjoy the experience and learn more about its operator's plans to develop further FlyOver-
branded attractions around the world
lyOver America is the second FlyOver-branded experience to date from operator Soaring Attractions. Its unveiling in late April at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, follows the introduction of FlyOver Canada at Vancouver's Canada Place back in 2013. Integral to both attractions is an i-Ride panoramic flight simulator/flying theatre from Brogent Technologies that provides passengers with an awe-inspiring aerial voyage over famous landmarks and spectacular scenery beneath them projected a spherical screen (as pictured below).

FlyOver America F
Flying theatre operator confirms global plans During their 10-minute ‘flight,’ FlyOver America audiences
are treated to a luxurious film with a lush musical score, in which they will feel like they are floating above landscapes stretching from Alaska in the north to Maine in the east and Hawaii way out west, plus many locations in between. Effects including wind, mist and scent add to the immersive nature of the experience. “The appeal of the attraction is that it's universal,"
observes Christopher Grap, senior manager of experiential and new marketing at the Mall of America. “Who wouldn’t want to experience uninhibited views of some of the country’s most beautiful vistas? The sensations are immersive, exciting and often breathtaking. The photography alone is awe inspiring but when coupled with the technology and use of some fun and surprising special effects, guests are leaving FlyOver America with smiles on their faces." The new attraction is located to the southwest corner of Mall of America's Nickelodeon Universe indoor theme park, but admission is separate. Although there are no age restrictions, FlyOver America audience members must be 40 inches (1m) or taller to climb aboard the i-Ride vehicles. During the flight, passengers are suspended in front of a giant 66-feet diameter (20m) half-spherical dome screen, with their feet dangling 10 to 40ft (3m-12m) above the ground. Nine motion platforms accommodate up to 62 riders in total (three rows of eight in the middle, flanked by two rows of seven and one row of five seats on either side).
