Online leads the way in UK O
nline gambling now accounts for 33% of all betting and gaming in
the UK, according to new data from the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC). Between April 2015 and March 2016, online gaming operators generated a gross gambling yield (GGY) of £4.5 billion (⇔
5.3 billion/$5.6
billion). In comparison, the UK National Lottery collected £3.4 billion in the same period, while high street betting came in at £3.3 billion and traditional casinos £1 billion. Of the total generated by online gambling, £2.6 billion came from casino games, with £1.6 billion from betting and £1.8 billion from slots. The UKGC reports also showed that as of September this year, there were 8,709 betting shops in the UK, 1.8% fewer than last year. The number of gaming machines fell 0.4%
to 167,839, while, as of March 2016, B2 gaming machine count dropped by 0.9% to 34,884.
In addition, as of September 2016, the amount of bingo
premises fell 4.3% year-on-year to 575, while the total number of people employed in the UK gambling industry was down 1.5% on March 2015 to 104,896. James Green, programme director at the
UKGC, said “Our latest statistics show that with the growth in online gambling the industry is increasingly taking a creative approach to using technology to engage consumers. As the online sector grows operators will also need to demonstrate that they are taking an equally innovative approach to ensuring gambling is safe for all online consumers.”

RedZoneSports offering to US sports buffs
F
ans of US sports in the UK can now touchdown at a new home for all their betting needs thanks to the launch of
RedZoneSports.com. Whether it is NFL, NBA, MLS or MLB, RedZoneSports
will have the best prices and biggest markets for the punter who loves all things North American. While also offering a comprehensive range of odds on traditional European sports, such as football, horseracing and tennis, RedZoneSports believes its launch finally offers fans of major US leagues the level of coverage that they desire.
executive and co-founder, Mark Højgaard, said. John Karantzis, chief executive and managing director of iSignthis, added: “We will continue to provide KYC services enabling them to identify new customers and deliver an efficient on-boarding process to
their increased customer base. What we see here is the future of Bitcoin and other blockchain currency payments, where we are serving users with the lowest entry barriers possible. I believe that joint efforts in increasing the ease of use for the end consumer will attract more users to the Bitcoin world, and thus boost the blockchain currency adoption at large.”
“At Redzone we love all sports but we have a particular soft spot for all things American, and especially NFL,” said Stephen Baumohl, Vice President of Trading at RedZoneSports and previous Head of US Sports at Sporting Index. “If, like us, your heart beats a little faster from September to the Super Bowl you will have noticed that there is very little choice between bookmakers when it comes to betting on American football. This is due to the fact that almost all bookmakers follow the line set by Las Vegas… and we know what happens in Vegas should stay in Vegas. We believe in creating our own lines and odds for US sports and we are prepared to back that up by having high limits for all customers.” The launch of RedZoneSports, which is operated by Argyll Entertainment and powered by Amelco, comes just weeks after sister site
BetOnBrazil.com – backed by talkSPORT presenter and former Scotland footballer Alan Brazil – went live. The strength of the BetOnBrazil brand has already been recognised through its nomination for two gongs at the SBC Awards, which celebrates excellence in the gambling industry. Stuart Tilly, CEO of Argyll Entertainment added:
“Following the initial success of BetOnBrazil we want to take our same philosophy of having entertainment at the heart of everything we do and apply it to a US sports- themed gambling destination for the rapidly-growing number of UK customers who follow the NFL, NBA and other major US sports.”
