CHILLVENTA

Ensuring sustainable business success B

itzer focused on natural refrigerants and solutions for increasing energy effi ciency in new and existing systems at Chillventa

this year, under the motto ‘shaping the future with you’. The refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump industry can expect changes in the areas of refrigerants and energy effi ciency due to the Montreal Protocol, the EU F-Gas Regulation, the Ecodesign Directive, and potential PFAS bans. Martin Büchsel, chief sales and marketing

offi cer at Bitzer, said: “What we generally view as challenges of the future can also off er major opportunities. We are doing what we can to ensure they benefi t our customers and partners. We represent #morethanacompressor and #greencompetence.” Europe is moving towards minimal use of HFCs and Bitzer recommends natural refrigerants for planning new refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump systems based on Bitzer components in the EU. The company has off ered components for R717 (ammonia) since 1973, for hydrocarbons since 1990 and for R744 (CO2

) since 1998.

), especially

for industrial refrigeration. The compressors are designed for high standstill pressures of up to 80 bar. Bitzer is also the only manufacturer to include reciprocating, screw, and scroll compressors for R290 (propane) in its portfolio, showcasing these along with the Ecoline Pro, cs Pro and Orbit Pro series at Chillventa. Components for R717 (ammonia) rounded off the Bitzer product portfolio. The open drive OS.A105 screw compressors come in three displacement volumes – 1400, 1700 and 2000 m3

Energy-effi cient systems are a must Energy effi ciency is crucial for both new and existing systems to achieve fi nancial business success and increase sustainability. Effi cient systems reduce energy and operating costs, increase system availability, and decrease indirect emissions associated with energy consumption. Bitzer compressors are designed to fulfi l market requirements, off ering maximum

effi ciency and a long lifetime. The line-start permanent-magnet (lspm) motor technology of the Ecoline+ series uses high motor effi ciency and low heat input into the refrigerant to reduce energy consumption. Advanced capacity control is essential for

improving effi ciency in full and part load. Bitzer off ers options tailored to its compressors, enabling precise capacity adjustment based on actual refrigeration and heating requirements. At Chillventa, Bitzer highlighted the opportunities provided by the Varipack frequency inverter and Varistep mechanical capacity control. These technologies can be optimally combined in new systems and also off er benefi ts for retrofi tting existing systems to optimise energy consumption. A wide range of capacity modulation in the compound system ensures both the minimum load and varying cooling and heating loads up to the maximum load are covered. Precise capacity control optimises dynamic system behaviour, improves control accuracy (CF), and lowers temperature diff erentials in heat exchangers, reducing fl uctuations in pressure and high cycling rates. Calculations demonstrate that precise control of compressor capacity can increase system effi ciency considerably. Raising the evaporation temperature by 3 Kelvin can improve

effi ciency by up to 12%, while reducing the condensing temperature by 1 Kelvin can improve effi ciency by another two to three per cent. Focusing on energy effi ciency, the new

generation of the IQ Module CM-RC-02 was one of the Bitzer product highlights at Chillventa 2024. It has been a standard feature of Ecoline reciprocating compressors of the C3 series and higher since the beginning of the year, laying the foundation for even higher effi ciency in compressor operation and increased availability. Intelligent functions such as monitoring key operating parameters and a user-friendly operating concept simplify compressor installation, commissioning and maintenance. Thanks to extension boards, the IQ Module also simplifi es connection and operation of Varistep capacity control. “With the IQ Module, we demonstrate that it is possible to improve energy effi ciency without increasing complexity. The IQ Module was developed to simplify everyday operations for installers and contractors,” said Rainer Große- Kracht, vice-chairman of the management board and chief technology offi cer of Bitzer. There are special performance kits available for retrofi tting existing compressors. Thanks to the IQ Module, Varistep capacity control can also be retrofi tted at any time to improve effi ciency.
