COMPRESSORS FANS

Engineers need a good understanding of the overall system to ensure that repairs do not inadvertently cause issues elsewhere. Screw compressors are typically used in large, high-capacity systems, and any downtime can be costly. Field engineers may be under pressure to diagnose and repair issues quickly to minimise disruption and limit consequential losses. Against this background, and with the use of screw compressors set to increase, Green Point UK recently introduced a specialist support service for contractors responsible for screw compressor-based systems. Founded on the principle that ‘no one knows the

compressor better than the original manufacturer’, the service brings together the combined knowledge of Bitzer and Green Point. It includes remote technical advice, on-site support if required, troubleshooting and diagnostics. Where it is not possible to carry out repairs in the fi eld, contractors can access in-house testing and repair facilities, up to full remanufacturing and recommissioning support. In collaboration with Bitzer UK, Green Point is also

developing an in-person training course on screw compressor technology, to be held at Milton Keynes next year. Aimed at refrigeration contractors, fi eld engineers and qualifi ed end- user maintenance staff , it is hoped the support service and technical training will lead to improved maintenance practices,

reduced downtime, lower servicing costs and improved effi ciency, and enable technicians to carry out commissioning and service work with confi dence. The initiative is aimed at fi lling the perceived knowledge gap to meet current needs and anticipates an expansion in the use of screw compressors in the future. It puts in place a solid foundation of support and readily available expertise to smooth the way for the coming expansion in the use of screw technology.
