A century of innovation
Delegates tour the exhibition.
This year Panasonic celebrates its centenary alongside 60 years of heating and cooling. Over 2000 customers from around the world attended a three-day convention in Mallorca to celebrate. Lynn Sencicle reports.

n February, not long before the snows hit, Panasonic in the UK took a delegation of customers to Mallorca to attend its celebratory conference. Over 42 diff erent countries were represented by the 2000 guests at the event, with the conference taking over the resort city of Palma for the duration. All of those in attendance were people who Panasonic recognises as having helped the company grow and continue to support the brand, including some of the company’s own key staff .

The convention was split into three main events, centering around the Palau de Congressos. The fi rst was a welcome and talk headed by Laurent Abadie, chief executive of Panasonic Europe, which took the audience through Panasonic’s history and into the future. The company was founded in 1918 by Kōnosuke Matsushita who began by producing lightbulb sockets. With headquarters in Osaka, Japan, the company today has over a quarter of a million employees worldwide. The European arm of the business opened its fi rst sales offi ce

in Germany in 1962, and Panasonic has been a major brand here ever since.
The heating and cooling side of Panasonic’s business was developed in 1958, which makes this year a double celebration for the company as it looks back on its 60 year history of developing and providing sustainable and reliable products within the HVAC industry. The future of the company unsurprisingly, is one of continual technological advancement. Mr Abadie said: “In the next 10 years we will see more innovation in mobility then we have seen over the last 100 years. Electrifi cation, connectivity and automisation will be at the heart of this major revolution.
“By embracing change, we will maintain our unwavering dedication to leading-edge craftsmanship, performance, and style, and our ultimate commitment to creating ‘A Better Life, A Better World.’”
