Building relationships with family values and teamwork
Italian air conditioning company Aermec has deep foundations in family history and a strict set of values. The Riello family history has a fundamental ethos of honest hard work which has fi ltered down through the generations and this practical mindset is heavily tempered by creativity and innovation.
Giordano Riello (Feb 2018). T
he company’s story begins with Ettore Riello, a mechanic who set up his own workshop in 1920. He had three sons, Pilade, Giusseppe and Raff aello, and it was Pilade who went on to manage the company. The peaks and troughs of a seasonal business proved diffi cult, however, and eventually the business started to suff er.
It was Pilade’s favourite nephew Giordano, son of Raff aello, who pointed out that the air conditioning that Pilade had purchased from the US might be a viable prospect for the Italian markets. From this concept, Giordano founded Riello Condizionatori in 1961.
Soon, Giordano was able to build a factory near Verona - a 130,000m2
factory which is
still a thriving, modern plant with over 650 employees.
It was here, in 1963, that the Aermec brand was born, initially making air conditioners for both direct sale and for other brands before expanding into splits and the fan coils for which the brand is internationally renowned. The Giordano Riello International Group was created and under its auspices, the Aermec brand grew. After building a complete HVAC portfolio and

becoming a worldwide name, in 1998 Giordano decided that it was no longer good enough for Aermec to be just a brand, and he elevated it to become the name of the air conditioning company.
Today, as a key part of the Riello Group, Aermec has a global presence with subsidiaries in the UK, France, Germany, Poland, Russia and Canada. The Riello Group also includes FAST, Sierra, RPM Italy, RPM Hungary, GR Elettroventilation, Elettrotest and most recently, electronics company, Nplus.
Continuing the family ethos, Giordano instilled in the company the values that he believed in, with each generation charged with creating their own vision and from there, their own company. As they prove themselves, each person eventually becomes a part of the Group, bringing their company under the Riello umbrella. This all feeds into the values at the heart of the company: that it be built on experience, ideas and solutions, underpinned by competence, the fl exibility to respond to market requirements, well-being and protecting the environment. Manufacturing innovative, quality products is a key part of Aermec’s core, and the company has
a programme of continual investment into the research and development area, making sure that it is as up to date as possible.
In 2015, Aermec opened what is said to be Europe’s largest test chamber. It can accommodate units of up to 2MW capacity and is accredited to perform Eurovent and AHRI certifi ed testing.
There are laboratories covering a variety of discilpines including, but not limited to, six calorimetric chambers, a semi-anechoic chamber and a real room chamber.
Going hand in hand with research and development is maintaining a level of quality, and it is to this end that the company holds certifi cations such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and Vision 2000 which certifi es product development and customer service processes. Aermec defi nes quality as a combination of reliability and customer satisfaction, and every unit, no matter the size, goes through testing before being shipped.
Working closely with its suppliers, Aermec’s logistics management is integrated with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to
