Parker Hannifi n is introducing two new refrigeration dryer series, PSE (Polestar Smart-E) and SPS (Starlette Plus-E), to bring its complete range of low-pressure refrigeration dryers up to date, using the new low GWP (global warming potential) refrigerant gas R513A. Both series are designed for effi cient removal of water vapour from compressed air in all industrial and general-purpose applications requiring a pressure dew point as low as 3°C.

With a GWP as low as 573 compared with the current refrigerants R134a (GWP 1430) and R407C (GWP 1774), the new ranges are fully equipped to meet the requirements of the European F-gas regulation EU 517/2014, in terms of GWP reduction and impact on the environment. For the end user, investing in a solution that works with a low GWP refrigerant is not only an environmentally sound decision, but also guards against potential disruptions (associated with higher GWP gases), such as shortages, price increases and future bans. The new SPS family, with dual-frequency models from 0.4 to 10 m³/min, retains all the features, versions (including the energy saving version from model SPS026) and benefi ts of the previous, successful SPE range (Starlette Plus-E), with the additional value of the new low GWP refrigerant R513A in place of R134a.

Following public recommendations to stop recirculating air in HVAC in buildings, JenAct – part of the Jenton Group of Companies – is reporting increased demand for its high performance UV Torpedo in-duct air disinfection units with particular interest for offi ce and food processing environments. The systems, which keep ducted air conditioning systems 99.99% SARS-Cov-2 free and operational, are making a signifi cant contribution to programmes designed to enable employees to safely reoccupy premises.

JenAct’s UV Torpedo systems, which are designed to fi t longitudinally into existing return air ducts, prevent the return of the virus into the ventilation system and also prevent contamination from one room / area to another.

Over the last 10 years JenAct has developed advanced CFD modelling software to predict performance of UVC irradiation in ducts and set specifi cations for UVC systems. Recent research by Boston University has confi rmed UV-C doses required to disinfect SARS-CoV-2 and this has been used to validate SARS-CoV-2 data for the JenAct model. Various confi gurations are available depending on the size and shape

Munters recently replaced an obsolete desiccant dehumidifier with a more energy efficient solution at Floranova. The company is a specialist in the breeding and supply of ornamental F1 hybrid plants and open pollinated seeds.

For over 30 years, a Munters MD300 dehumidifier controlled humidity in their most critical seed store. “The biggest issue is humidity,” said Stuart Walpole, process manager at Floranova. Creating the right environment is essential to prevent any germination or damage ahead of shipping and planting. With the MD300 now obsolete, Munters supplied an ML270 desiccant dehumidifier as the most suitable alternative. “Reliability is key,” said Mr Walpole. “We opted for a direct replacement and didn’t even consider using anyone else. This is our most critical storage area, and as such we need a system we can trust. We know we can rely on the Munters units.” The temperature in this store is maintained to 12-15°C, with the ML270 maintaining relative humidity to 27-33%. Mr Walpole said: “Overall I’m really impressed. The new system is far more energy efficient. It easily does exactly what it’s required to do, and it is exceptionally reliable. It maintains consistent conditions. I’m very happy.” www.munters.com
