From the editor Evolution for life

W

hen it started to become clear that the three week lockdown may well be a lot longer, at ACR News,

we asked businesses to keep us updated as to how their operations were affected (www.acr- news.com/coronavirus-industry-update). What became clear from the resultant statements and conversations was how people are now embracing concepts that have been around for a while but not been a consideration. Take working from home for example. There are good reasons why a company may not like people working from home – trust, capability, social, meetings, etc. – but those barriers are being overcome as a matter of necessity. There are many other examples such as secure pick up containers

which were the province of retailers and merchants that catered for out of hours pickups – are now being used by wholesalers and distributors to service customers while observing social distancing - essential, because the acr industry is an essential sector. All of this evolution could well change the shape of every day life

when we emerge from the other side of this crisis. Perhaps the roads will remain emptier and public transport will always have available seats without a rush hour, and 24 hour retail will be a reality for all sectors. One thing is for sure, people are resilient, resourceful and working hard to make their businesses that way too.
