Raspberry Pi application Global Connector Technology has shipped its ten millionth Dual USB connector USB1035 for the Raspberry Pi. Two dual USB connectors are used on each Raspberry Pi device to enable the attachment of peripherals such as keyboards, mice and webcams which provide the Pi with additional functionality.
The GCT dual, USB type A, connector was initially chosen for cost, service, lead time and reliability. The challenge as Raspberry Pi sales exploded was to deliver very high volumes to multiple subcontractors handling Pi production.
As sales increased GCT’s production lines were expanded, in order to offer a stable and short lead time. The decision was made to invest in fully automated tooling to maintain a superb level of quality with high throughput. The GCT factory is now capable of producing 1.4 million pieces per month.

New lower cost Datec-Compact Enclosures for
indoor use OKW’s new unsealed version of DATEC-COMPACT helps cut costs
OKW has launched an unsealed (IP 41) version of its robust DATEC- COMPACT handheld enclosures for indoor applications.
Specifying DATEC-COMPACT without its normal IP 65 seal enables OEM designers to house their electronics even more cost effectively.
Applications for DATEC-COMPACT include mobile data recording, measuring and control, stock and sales logging, medical, laboratory and environmental technology.
Modern and ergonomic DATEC-COMPACT is OKW’s first model to offer integrated contacts as an option – providing an all-in solution for charging and data transfer.
All units in the range – enclosures, desk stations and wall holders – can be specified with built-in contacts for charging 3 x 1.5 V AAA or AA cells.
Specifying the IP 65 version with a battery compartment enables SD cards and USB connectors to be housed within the sealed area.
DATEC-COMPACT is manufactured from ASA+PC-FR (UL 94 V-0) for added strength and UV stability. They are assembled with tamperproof Torx T10 screws.
Cases are available in three sizes: S (136 x 74 x 32 mm), M (172 x 92 x 39 mm), L (206 x 110 x 47 mm). The top section features a large recess for a membrane keypad or product label.
All units in the range can be specified with or without a battery compartment and in two standard colours: Off-white (RAL 9002) or Lava Grey.

400mW radio modem simplifies long range
telemetry for Pan-European markets The new Radiometrix FPL3 radio modem simplifies the design of long range wireless appliances that can be marketed in any European country. This highly integrated multi-channel radio with 400mW RF output power operates in the 869.4- 869.65MHz frequency band, which is the only band permitted for license-free operation at up to 500mW in all EU countries.
The FPL3’s built-in modem minimises demand for external components. In addition, the modem has inverted-RS232 serial interfaces at 5V CMOS voltage level, which enables direct connection to a UART or host microcontroller without a driver or level shifter. The FPL3 also integrates firmware for managing data timing and formatting at the radio interface, which saves the user keying the transmitter on or off and ensures dependable link latency.
With maximum serial data rate of 9600 baud and radio range of
more than 3km, depending on operating conditions, the FPL3 is a strong choice for new designs such as security systems, fire-warning systems, industrial controls or telemetry, asset tracking, and control of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).
The eight-channel radio is programmed for 869.475MHz and 869.565MHz in the EU, with channels 4-7 set to 869.50MHz for backward compatibility. The 67mm x 30mm x 12mm module operates from a single 5V supply, and draws 50mA in receive mode and 500mA when transmitting at 400mW (+26dBm) RF output power.
The FPL3 conforms to ETSI EN 300 220-2 (radio) and EN 301 489-3 (EMC) standards.

High accuracy microhmmeters have versatile
measurement capabilities The Cropico DO4000 series of handheld digital microhmmeters from Seaward provides a highly practical solution for a wide range of low resistance measurement applications in the precision engineering and manufacturing sectors.
The portable and rugged instrument range includes a number of advanced features to ensure high measurement accuracy including forward and reverse current measurement with auto averaging, true current zero, long scale length and a selectable measurement range from 40m to 4k with respective resolutions between 10 and 1.
Within the three model series, the DO4001 also includes temperature compensation, with preset coefficients for copper and aluminium plus user settable coefficients for other materials. Temperature measurement over the range –50 to +800ºC is also available.
Protection up to 415V rms is provided at the measurement terminals and push button operation is achieved easily by clearly marked function controls. Direct reading measured values are displayed on a four-digit LCD display.
Over-range and low battery indication is also provided and warning LEDs illuminate when an open circuit lead condition is detected.
The Cropico DO4000 series comes complete with a standard 1 metre length lead set and a rechargeable battery option includes a battery pack, docking station and charger.
