Temporary fork lift truck attachments must be inspected at least twice a year
CFTS now includes more robust attachment checks as part of a new set of national standards for Thorough Examinations of fork lift trucks CFTS. The UK’s national scheme for the thorough examination of fork lift trucks has announced important new checks to further strengthen the depth and quality of inspections as part of rigorous new procedures for attachments fitted to forklift trucks. More than 450 companies accredited to the CFTS scheme will perform these
additional checks which have been developed to ensure that both temporary and permanent truck attachments are safe and legal to use. “UK health and safety law stipulates
that fork lift truck users are legally obliged to perform thorough examinations on their trucks at least every 12 months (more frequently in some cases),” explains chairman Mike Mathias. “What many don’t know is that while permanent attachments should be inspected as part of these examinations
closely with many of the UK’s major manufacturers and suppliers to develop tough new tests for attachments. They deserve our thanks and appreciation for their time and advice in helping us develop appropriate testing regimes.” The newly expanded CFTS Thorough Examination now include separate inspections on the security of attachment mounts; winch and chain brake tests, chain and sling wear checks; damage inspections; checks on wear plates and warning signs and an entirely new checklist to cover platforms, safety cages and tail lifts where present. “With so many varieties of attachments
in use across the country – and such strict thorough examination regulations governing them – we recognised the need to develop a national standard for carrying out a thorough examination for the whole truck package,” concludes Mathias. “It is all part of our drive for continuous
improvement of CFTS Thorough Examinations.”

LIFT TRUCKS ADVERTORIAL
premium, UK-built X-Range series. The new machines provide class-leading performance, with the 3-wheel FBXT and 4-wheel FBX forklifts offering lifting capacities from 1,600 to 2,000kg. Both are available in long- and short- wheel-base formats, providing a productive and energy-efficient solution for numerous indoor/outdoor lifting applications. Commenting for Nexen, Pamela Oakes says:
Nexen Introduces New Models to Innovative X-Range Line Up T
he FBXT and FBX from Nexen Lift Trucks, are the company’s latest electric additions to its
complete control panel, which can be completely removed in less than two minutes. Automatic parking brakes ensure no adjustments are required, which further reduces equipment maintenance requirements. Nexen will offer a unique service exchange programme to ensure downtime is kept to the absolute minimum.
To further enhance
“These eagerly awaited models have undergone exhaustive pre-launch application tests and have exceeded design expectations for stability, reliability, driver comfort, performance and energy efficiency.” All models offer the latest technologies, including high-capacity DIN-STD batteries for multiple-shift operations. Both models are built to the highest standards using premium quality components which, combined with Nexen’s signature X-Range fully- floating cabin design, provides exceptional operator comfort and superior ergonomics that dramatically reduces driver fatigue.
Nexen’s FBXT/FBX electric forklifts feature
regenerative braking to enhance battery life and improve energy efficiency. Numerous options are also available for Nexen’s X-Range, operator presence,

accessibility, an optional fully-tilting cabin is also available; and all models feature rapid side-entry battery removal. The FBXT/FBX are the latest in Nexen’s line-up of counterbalanced forklifts and add to an ever- increasing portfolio of X-Range models that incorporates diesel and LPG machines up to 5,000kg. All have been designed with the versatility of logistics and warehousing sectors in mind; and Nexen is expecting these latest additions to be a global success,
with the company’s strong
international dealer network having already placed pre-launch orders. Summarising, Pamela Oakes says that the need for
operators to review their environmental impact is leading to many traditional internal combustion applications being forced to change to electric. However, the high-duty cycles associated with traditional IC applications means electric vehicles have to provide similar performance and productivity levels and, because they were designed from the ground up, Nexen’s FBXT/FBX models have built-in technology that provides unprecedented combinations of performance, productivity and cost- effectiveness, without having to compromise on operator comfort and safety.
