FEATURE INDUSTRIAL FLOORING

HARDWEARING FLOORING fast curing and easy to maintain

A manufacturer of soap, paper and chemical dispenser and dosing systems has installed industrial flooring products from Watco to keep all areas of its facilities clearly defined

S

ussex based Brightwell Dispensers is a successful British family business that has been manufacturing innovative soap, paper and chemical dispenser and dosing systems for more than 60 years. At Brightwell all areas of the business need to look the part from office to shop floor. “The appearance of the floors in our

production areas is vital as we often have customers touring our premises,” says property manager Roy Foxwell. As a consequence the floors in all seven

of its manufacturing buildings are painted regularly. There isn’t always much notice given and when management feels the floor isn’t looking up to scratch word comes from above that maintenance must re-paint it over the weekend. There are specific challenges such as where forklift traffic is at its highest it is almost impossible to remove tyre tracks, even on floors that are subject to daily wash-down (routine at Brightwell).

VALUABLE SITE VISIT SERVICE Brightwell had previously been using a number of different companies for its flooring and paint needs before Watco was recommended to them. The company offers a valuable site visit service where they offer advice on preparation, recommendations on which product to use and accurate quotations. Watco provide the benefit of a highly knowledgeable technical helpline with an experienced team to offer advice both before and after application. At Brightwell each area of the factory is

colour coded: walkways are blue, pallet areas green and all safety lines yellow. The main concern was to keep each area

looking clean and clearly defined, preferably using rapid-curing products. It was essential that the job could be completed over a weekend so that production could resume as normal on Monday morning. “We needed easy maintenance as well

as durability” says Foxwell so Watco recommended Epoxy Gloss Coat Rapid with Protecta Coat over the top and Powerfloat Primer Rapid and 4-Hour Epoxy Primer, all offering a high quality finish in a fraction of the time needed by competing products. Why two different primers? This was due to the nature of the areas. Powerfloat Primer is ideal for smooth, non-porous concrete while 4-hour Epoxy Primer is better for more porous concrete surface. Epoxy Gloss Coat Rapid is so fast drying that two coats can be applied on the Saturday, leaving Sunday for them to

CHEMICAL-RESISTANT, DURABLE FLOOR COVERING

FibreGrid SlipGrip range. Available in a Black flat sheet or as a step cover in black with yellow nosing, this GRP provides a chemical-resistant, hard- wearing surface ideal for more hazardous areas. Application is by drilling with mechanical fixing or by SlipGrip PermaBond Tape.

fully harden ready for the forklifts on Monday. Protecta Coat, the two-part Polyaspartic top sealer is a hardwearing product that dries in double quick time so it was possible to resume business without disruption at the start of the working week. “The rapid versions of the products speed up the process to give a shorter production shutdown,” explains Foxwell. The result was one satisfied customer and the products have since been rolled out for the other companies under BrightTech Investments’ banner. Polyaspartic technology is the latest advancement, allowing a rapid turnaround for floor repairs and coating. Using these products enables the warehouse manager to complete the project the same day keeping downtime to a minimum. A two-part reactive resin system, it

offers significant benefits over traditional epoxy resins when used as a basis for paint coatings. Polyaspartic systems will dry at much lower temperatures than epoxy resin, twice as quickly at normal temperatures and will not become faded by UV when used outside. Watco uses them in products where there will be a benefit for the customer.
