FLEET MANAGEMENT FEATURE
DUAL FUEL USAGE REPORTING TECHNOLOGY UPGRADE
In readiness for a potential growth in demand for alternative and dual fuel vehicles Microlise has released new reporting capability giving customers detailed primary and secondary fuel level information. The reports provide usage data in the vehicle’s native unit of measurement and convert the information into a gasoline equivalent to enable easy comparison. The upgrade comes as the company
continues to invest significantly in research and development. “Alternative fuel vehicles including those operating with dual fuel are likely to become more appealing to transport service providers if and when crude prices rise once again,” says Matthew Hague, executive director – product strategy. “Several fleets have already trialled or begun operations with dual fuel and we want to ensure we have a product available now to support fleets as the technology becomes more mainstream.” In January Transport for London (TfL)
launched LoCITY – an industry led programme which will help the freight and fleet sector lead the way in improving air quality and reducing carbon emissions. The primary objective of the scheme is to accelerate the adoption of low emission commercial vehicles in London. “We are seeing more government
initiatives to encourage low emission vehicles with dual fuel technology being out in the lead as one of the best ways to achieve this,” continues Hague. This upgrade is part of the Fleet

of UK small business owners are hindering their company’s growth through lack of adequate technology. However, often without an IT manager and tight budgets, small business owners must ensure the technology they employ is easy to work with and presents a clear return on investment. Fleet management solutions are a great fit for small business owners who manage the day-to-day running of a vehicle fleet. Fleetmatics’ REVEAL platform is a powerful yet simple solution designed to reduce costs and improve productivity for small business fleets. It provides real-time data insights into driver activity and behaviour including vehicle location, fuel usage, speed and mileage, helping businesses to make smarter and timely decisions in order to reduce costs and boost productivity. By collecting and analysing all this data in real-time, businesses have visibility on how the fleet has performed in the past, how its performance compares with similar businesses and how its drivers are performing across different vehicles. Data can be accessed by business
owners on the go and wherever they need it using a tablet or smartphone.

INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM KEEPS TRACK OF VEHICLE CONDITION
Suffolk-based warehouse and distribution company Bartrum Group is realising the benefits of the Freeway fleet maintenance system and its ability to fully integrate with the company’s transport management system Mandata TMS. The integrated solution provides visibility into the availability and status of every vehicle in the fleet and spare parts in stock. The Freeway-Mandata TMS link provides Bartrum with a comprehensive tool for fleet and workshop management including scheduled maintenance
and cost control. This helps to ensure each vehicle remains in first-rate condition and improves the overall efficiency of the fleet. The integrated solution enables back-tracking to trace anything in the system which is one of Freeway’s major benefits. “Whether it’s a vehicle or just a spare part we can track it back to its
origin and view its entire history,” explains chief engineer David Bumfrey. “We can see exactly what each vehicle has cost us over the years.” Freeway’s ‘traffic light system’ shows at a glance the status of every
vehicle, whether it is available, due for routine maintenance, requires repairs or is unusable. This makes the allocation of vehicles easier and simplifies the planning and scheduling of maintenance works. Freeway is currently installing the ability to generate invoices from job cards and automatically update Bartum’s Sage accounts software. This will eliminate time consuming manual data entry and streamline the administration process when third party vehicles are booked into the workshop. The family-owned Bartrum Group provides warehousing services both for domestic and international customers and operates a fleet of 171 vehicles to distribute customers’ goods throughout the UK. These are maintained in the company’s own six-bay workshop.
