The market is massive and the size of territories means that there is always ample growth potential, and franchisees can build a successful, valuable business. A bfa full member since 1992, Minster is the country’s biggest and one of the most successful commercial cleaning franchises. Annual turnover is now £37million, taking the average for the 43-branch network to over £850,000. The bfa awards are the most prestigious in the franchise sector and recognise the UK’s most exceptional franchisees. After a 30-year career with Lloyds Banking Group, Kevin followed up his long-held ambition to go into business for himself. He realised that a management franchise such as Minster would make best use of his extensive management skills while providing the safest route to business ownership. When he saw that his local Norfolk and Suff olk Minster branch was for sale, it was an opportunity too good to miss. Five years later, he has more than trebled turnover from £420,000 to £1.4million


and his business now has 170 contracts and 180 employees. Thanks to Minster’s expertise in implementing cleaning regimes and practices that meet the requirements of the Care Quality Commission, he has been particularly successful in the healthcare sector with over 40 medical practice contracts. He is now making signifi cant progress in the education sector. On average, franchisees have been with Minster for 13 years and some longer- serving franchisees are planning to retire in the next few years. There are currently established franchises available for resale in Dundee and Liverpool at a fee of £10,000 plus vat, in addition to the purchase price of the business.


New franchise opportunities include Cambridge, Doncaster, Durham, Leicester, London, Middlesex, Guildford, Peterborough and Swansea. Initial start-up cost is £28,225 plus vat, which covers licence, training, computer software and hardware, stationery, machinery, equipment and materials. In addition, between £40,000 and £60,000 working capital will be needed – fi nance is available from leading banks subject to status.
