Saks Hair & Beauty


Michelle Shergill


is a franchisee for Saks Hair & Beauty in West Bridgford, Nottingham.


ichelle started with Saks as a therapist and progressed from senior and managerial roles to franchisee.


Now she is one of the brand’s beauty experts and has become a mentor for the business development team. She has been trading since October 2007.


Why did you decide to go into franchising, and why Saks? I joined Saks straight from college and worked my way up. The natural progression was then to open my own franchise.


At 18, I joined Saks because it was known as a very professional organisation that was also fun to be part of. I became a franchisee with Saks because I wanted a big brand that would off er plenty of business and marketing support. I had watched therapists and stylists from our network progress to owning their own successful salons very quickly – it was the only choice for me!


Has the industry changed at all in recent years? Very much, including the type of results- driven treatments that customers now


expect a salon to off er, like advanced beauty treatments, facial peels and body contouring. Plus, we’re working with diff erent budgets, but also still delivering high-end services.


How is business going so far? Have you faced any challenges in particular? It’s showing a great increase this year. Our main two focuses have been to increase the average spend of the customer and to sell more retail – and we’re doing both!


What was the training and support from the franchisor like? Amazing. I gain so much from regular management training sessions in terms of how to push my business, as well as develop and motivate my team. I also benefi t from one-to-one coaching from my business development manager, which allows me to develop my business and keep ahead of the game.


What do you foresee for the future of your business? It’s going from strength to strength! I want to continue the ongoing team development and develop our advanced treatments off ering.
