eith McGowan grew up in the car body shop industry in a family business, but could see that the traditional body shop method was outdated,
and he needed to do something diff erent. Keith McGowan “That’s what attracted me to a

The strength of the brand and their high reputation also attracted me – ChipsAway is a brand that people seek out for high-quality minor paintwork repairs.” Keith’s business grew very quickly; he started off as a man in a van, but after just six months, he opened a workshop and took on his fi rst employee. Six months later, he took on another employee and it snowballed from there. He added: “I now have a third- generation workshop and operate the biggest ChipsAway Car Care Centre in the UK. What’s more, I have two ChipsAway vans, and I am turning over £1million per year. Like any business we have good days and bad days, but every day is an adventure.
“The head offi ce provides excellent emotional and technical support, as well as marketing and advertising services. It’s an emotional rollercoaster, but it’s been excellent and I love what I do. It’s so brilliant to have that support there when you are fi rst starting out.” When asked what advice he would give to someone looking to buy their fi rst franchise, he said: “You need to have a clear view of who you want to be and where you want to go. I have always had a vision of what I wanted my Car Care Centre to look like, and I’m at the stage where I have exactly what I imagined. “With this vision, I have been able to achieve my goals and now I operate the largest Car Care Centre in the UK.”
