Heat is on for faster patch repair
A unique heated patch repair packer is now available to the UK market, courtesy of Pipe Doctor Manufacturers Source One Environmental.
The Phoenix packer features a built-in heater for full control of the hardening process and a reduction in curing time by up to 50%, regardless of the outside temperature, with no risk of shrinkage to the patch.
“On site, this packer is a godsend – cutting drying time so you can move on to the next job, while producing the high quality you’d expect when you use products from the Pipe Doctor range,” explained Tony Hickman of Source One Environmental.
The Phoenix is able to operate in temperatures between -20°C and +50°C, for year-round use. Curing time is greatly reduced regardless of the external temperature, so jobs can be completed more swiftly, increasing capacity for contractors. The radiated heat from the packer accelerates the resin hardening process, without any shrinkage to the patch, which can occur with other methods used to cut drying time.
The display on the control unit shows the actual temperature of the packer in real time, allowing the whole process to be continuously monitored whilst work is ongoing. The addition of heat can also make the resin in the patch more workable, further increasing control over the repair.
The Phoenix packer is used alongside the WRc approved Pipe Doctor No-Dig Patch Repair Kit, to repair straight sections of damaged pipes without excavation. It is available for pipes of 100mm and 150mm nominal diameter and in lengths up to 5m. The Phoenix is a durable piece of equipment, designed to withstand site conditions, with a heavy duty, waterproof cable.
The installation process is almost identical to that used with a standard packer – once the packer is inflated, simply connect the Control Box to the power supply, connect the packer’s power cable to the Control Box and switch it on. The Control Box monitors the internal temperature of the packer and regulates the temperature automatically.
“The Phoenix packer, and the efficiency it offers contractors, is a welcome addition to our Pipe Doctor range,” commented Tony. “The quality products complement each other and combine to produce a professional finish.”
The full Pipe Doctor range includes the WRc approved kit for straight repairs, kits for the repair of bends and lateral junctions, packers, resin, fibre glass matting and all other equipment and accessories to accomplish expert patch repairs.
