Improved safety is our watchword! Oxford Plastics upgrades its innovative Watchman Barrier with the launch of the new improved Watchman II
Market-leading UK manufacturer Oxford Plastics has launched a new variant of its popular Watchman Barrier – a plastic post and plank barrier system for manhole repairs, cable laying and other temporary excavations as well as a range of indoor uses.
Following customer feedback, the Watchman II has been upgraded and now features tougher HDPE planks, heavy duty weights fitted inside the posts, and anti-trip rectangular bases in hi-vis yellow.
The Watchman II can also be used with the Oxford Ballast Tray, which clips onto the barrier and does not protrude into the workspace, to meet new regulations regarding wind speed.
Peter Creighton, Business Development Director for Oxford Plastics Systems, says: “We are constantly innovating to solve safety issues for our customers and end users, and as such, we are always keen to receive feedback to help us fine-tune our products to meet their needs.
“The Watchman II is a new, improved variant of our hugely successful Watchman Barrier with additional features to ensure the safety of pedestrians, other road users and contractors.”

Watchman planks are reflective, in lengths of 1.25m or 2m, and are fitted with end connectors incorporating a unique locking feature. The system cannot be easily dismantled while unattended, while lamps can be fitted to upright posts for additional visibility at night.
Although the system comes as a complete set of plants, posts and bases, items can also be purchased separately.
The Donkey Reel, new from JHL
A new, all-terrain satellite hose reel has been developed by JHL for those places where a normal sewer cleaning vehicle cannot go. Designed to be operated by a single person, the new Donkey Reel features an adjustable track width and carries a 200 metre long 1 inch jetting hose.
A rear operating platform, straightforward controls and easy steering help to make, this Honda powered unit, simple to operate.
The adjustable track improves stability and safety when the going gets tough. For storage and access through narrow entries the machine can operate at its minimum width of 758mm. In normal circumstances it is recommended that the track is set to its maximum of 1058mm. This allows the machine to operate on side slopes of up to 25 degrees.
As well as operating in areas with reduced access, the tracked extension reel is able to work on more challenging terrain, such as on construction sites and some rural locations, where a combination unit may become bogged down.
This new, high quality addition to the JHL line-up adds even greater flexibility to the already adaptable range of combination units.
