HI-IQ and PowerScribe 360 align to provide an integrated workflow to support quality improvement
The companies began working together as an outgrowth of SIR’s and SIR Foundation’s recent initiative to develop and publish structured reports. Recognizing overlaps and synergies between the data captured in the radiology report and data documented for quality assurance within HI-IQ, SIR introduced the two companies to develop a solution.

Through the interface, data captured in HI-IQ will pre- populate auto-text fields in the report. During the dictation process in PowerScribe 360, the radiologist completes any missing information and makes corrections and updates to the pre-populated data. The final report is then sent to HI-IQ, updating and completing the HI-IQ record. “Data entry fatigue is a real issue in health care and seamless integration between critical systems eliminates duplicate entry, saving time and reducing the possibility of errors and discrepancies,” states Kevin Lauzon RT(R)(CT), CIIP, HI-IQ’s clinical software design director.
By enabling documentation in HI-IQ by each team member as data is gathered and the procedure unfolds, the system ensures accuracy and thorough communication within the care delivery team.
26 IR QUARTERLY | SPRING 2016
n a combined effort to reduce the time radiologists need to fulfill their required case documentation, HI-IQ has created a bidirectional interface that cross-populates quality data between HI-IQ and PowerScribe® 360.
Further, this integration will support data submission to the National IR Quality Registry that is in development by SIR Foundation and the American College of Radiology (ACR). The registry is slated for launch this year and will allow data submission through adoption of structured reports and direct electronic health record data capture through systems such as HI-IQ and PowerScribe 360. Participation in the National IR Quality Registry will provide an automated or semi-automated means to fulfill PQI and MOC requirements from the American Board of Radiology. Participating facilities and physicians will receive aggregated benchmarking reports to facilitate patient safety and quality improvement efforts.
In addition to saving time, the interface encourages real- time data capture, at the source, by those who know it best. By enabling documentation in HI-IQ by each team member as data is gathered and the procedure unfolds, the system ensures accuracy and thorough communication within the care delivery team. This information is then at the radiologist’s fingertips within the PowerScribe 360 report, pre-populated by HI-IQ. Joining information between HI-IQ and PowerScribe 360 creates a comprehensive procedure record detailing the information needed to make informed decisions about patient care and quality improvement initiatives. This emerging technology is currently in the pilot phase and is expected to be widely available in early summer 2016.
