09 Eco Trader Arklow Valour good to go
EEMSHAVEN In January Royal Bodewes in Hoogezand released the Eco Trader Arklow Valour, with build type 725 to Arklow Shipping. This mini bulk carrier which was built in this series falls between the 3,000 tons and 90 meters in length bracket, making it highly suitable for efficient transportation of bulk and pieces in the Northwest of Europe and Southern Europe.
The Arklow Valour is the fiſth release in a series of ten. Prior to this Royal Bodewes released the Arklow Vale, -View, -Valiant and -Valley. Aſter this first release this year five similar vessels are set to be released later this year. The wharf is building these cargo ships on the Winschoterdiep in quick succession, without any loss in quality. It has the advantage of being able to build both the Casco on this wharf, as well as the finishing touches in the same location, bearing in mind what the client wants. Experience and clients’ wishes were used to transform its concepts over and over again.
This particular kind of ship has been well thought through, a concept of a mini-bulk carrier well suited for short sea transportation on the numerous routes in the Northwest and South of Europe. This design for the Eco Trader needed to be as simple as possible using as little superfluous technology as possible, so that costs were reduced both while building and operating this ship. Further cost reductions needed to be found in its size and tonnage, bearing in mind the laws and regulations in terms of staffing requirements, navigational systems and costs of insurance and harbor fees. Within its 85 metres a freefall lifeboat is not a requirement, so this space gets to be used efficiently. Cranes are used on board to get and throw out a MOB boat and life fleets. Making it a compact, well thought through complete ship. It is easy to work and accessible, with ample room and volume, with minimum of tonnage and length. The design, coming from Royal Bodewes was optimized by the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN), which is in Wageningen. Thanks to their remarkably efficient parts under the water the ship has a minimum resistance and fuel usage is very low. The 1.740 KW of the MAK 6M25 main engine is more than enough for it to be able to function under difficult conditions in a sufficient and successful manner. Compared to the first three other ships from this series the added cleaning system stands out, which is meant to get rid of ballast water, a legal requirement since January first of this year. Stemming from this requirement prior to the year it was finished an Ocean Guard Ballast Water Management System was installed when it was time to lay the keel. Making this ship ready to transport bulk and mixed cargo.

EEMSHAVEN In januari werd door Royal Bodewes Hoogezand de Eco Trader Arklow Valour met bouwnummer 725 aan Arklow Shipping overgedragen. Deze in serie gebouw- de mini-bulkcarrier valt binnen de grenzen van 3.000 ton en 90 meter lengte en is daardoor goed inzetbaar voor efficiënt transport van bulk en stukgoed in Noordwest en Zuid- Europa.
De Arklow Valour is de vijfde oplevering in een serie van tien. Eerder werden door Royal Bodewes in Hoogezand de Arklow Vale, -View, -Valiant en – Valley opgeleverd. Na deze eerste oplevering dit jaar volgen nog vijf schepen van dit type. De werf bouwt deze cargo schepen aan het Winschoterdiep in een hoog tempo zonder in te leveren op kwaliteit. Hierbij heeſt de werf het voordeel de zowel de bouw van het casco als de afbouw op dezelfde locatie te kunnen uitvoeren, rekening houdend met klantspecifieke eisen. Ervaringen en gebrui- kerswensen worden steeds weer gebruikt voor
aangepassingen in het concept. Dit type schip is een goed doordacht concept mini-bulkcarrier geschikt voor short sea transport op de diverse scheepsroutes in Noordwest en Zuid Europa. Uitgangspunt voor het ontwerp van deze Eco Trader was een zo eenvoudig mogelijk schip waarbij de uitvoering met zo min mogelijk overbodige techniek aan boord wordt gerealiseerd ten behoeve van kostenbesparing bij zowel de bouw als tijdens de operationele inzet. Voor verdere besparing in de operationele inzet van dit scheepstype werd vanuit afmeting en tonnage rekening gehouden met wet- en regelgeving op gebied van bemanningsvereisten, navigatiesystemen en kosten van bijvoorbeeld verzekeringspre- mies en havengelden. Binnen de 85 meter is ook een freefal lifeboat geen vereiste zodat deze ruimte efficient kan worden ingezet. Kranen zorgen aan boord voor het uitzetten en terughalen van een MOB-boot en reddingsvlot- ten. Een compact, doordacht en compleet schip. Overzichtelijk en goed werkbaar met
een zo groot mogelijk ruim volume bij minimaal tonnage en lengte. Het ontwerp van de engineers van Royal Bodewes werd geoptimaliseerd door het Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) uit Wageningen. Dankzij het bijzonder efficiënte onderwater- schip is de weerstand en daarmee het brandstofverbruik minimaal. De 1.740 kW van de MAK 6M25 hoofdmotor is hierbij meer dan voldoende om ook onder zwaardere omstan- digheden goed en rendabel te opereren. Ten opzichte van de eerste drie schepen uit de serie is de toegevoegde reinigingsinstallatie voor ballastwater, verplicht sinds 1 januari dit jaar, een opvallend verschil. Vanuit deze eis werd al bij de kiellegging in het jaar waarin deze verplichting nog niet van toepassing was een Ocean Guard Ballast Water Management System geïnstalleerd. Ook dit schip uit de reeks is daarmee klaar voor een mooie toekomst in transport van stukgoed en bulk.
