CONTENTS # 85

Welcome to Summit 85

Spring’s here: the season of anticipation. After our long, and rather wet, winter, it’s time to start turning your adventurous dreams into reality.

We’ve got some ambitious plans here at the BMC, too. With now over 82,000 members, our target is to reach 100,000 to reflect the growing popularity of climbing and walking. I’d like to say a personal thanks to every member for their continuing belief in our work. Look out for some new membership benefits this year, including a recommend-a-friend offer.

The real strength in the BMC lies in our large numbers of dedicated volunteers. It’s what makes the organisation work, so I’d also like to give thanks to all the volunteers: from local area representatives to the specialist committees, the National Council and the Executive Committee. We couldn’t do it without you.

Have a great spring

Rehan Siddiqui BMC President

Land of the gods Valentine Fabre coming down from Mount Olympus: Greece’s highest mountain (2,918m) which rises straight out of the Mediterranean! In early February it was beating Chamonix with great skiing and lots of fresh snow above 1,300m.
