CLIMB SKILLS: RAD W

What’s new in the world of access? Introducing the Regional Access Database Mark II, featuring a host of improvements designed solely for you.

e’ve been keeping it quiet, but now it’s time for the grand unveiling. Our team has developed a new and improved web version of the Regional Access

ALL CRAGS NOW INCLUDED

The new version includes all significant known crags, which will reduce past confusion from when popular crags did not feature.

BETTER SEARCH FUNCTIONALITY

Map search allows zooming and panning, while the search box allows you to find a specific crag by name or area.

WEATHER AND TIDES

This completely new feature pulls local weather information for all crags and tidal information for coastal crags, including: wind direction and speed – useful for finding dry or sheltered crags, and sunrise/sunset times.

USER COMMENTS

This is where the new RAD really shines, as users can post updates to the crag page (immediately if signed in on the BMC website). We hope it will become the go-to for providing and receiving all useful updates on anything

52 | CLIMB. WALK. JOIN.

Database (RAD. It’s modern, cleaner, and infinitely more usable, with loads of extra features, crags, and way more interactive. Here’s the lowdown on what’s changed:

at a crag; from dangers like recent rockfall to current conditions or seepage.

RESTRICTIONS INFORMATION

We’ve added a temporary restriction option to complement the previous traffic light system.

LOCAL, INFORMATIVE, MAPS

In addition to the map search, there is also a local zoomed-in map on each crag page with the ability to add pins to the map to indicate points of interest such as parking location, best approaches and landmarks.

DOWNLOADABLE FILES

Pages will have a list of downloadable files, such as: restriction areas on a topo, PDF guidebooks or other useful documents for the crag.

PHOTOS AND VIDEOS

Share your new routes or add photos of changes to the crag. Photos and videos can now be added to each crag.

“HAVING IMMEDIATE,

UPDATED INFORMATION AND ADVICE AT YOUR FINGERTIPS, AS IT HAPPENS, IS PRICELESS.”

What’s next?

The next step is to update the app versions. In the coming months, our team will work on bringing this new and improved RAD to mobiles across all platforms. Watch this space.
