Twenty-fi ve years ago, music pirates were feeling the wrath of the biz. Er, kind of. Stephen Charlesworth of Clwyd-based company Designatec was found guilty of breaching an injunction stopping him advertising video bootlegs of artists and warned further breaches would result in jail time. Leading names in the biz were not exactly happy bunnies about it. “Even a week in prison would have served as a warning to pirates,” said Tim Dabin, head of the BPI Anti-Piracy Unit.


More legal drama, ahoy! George Michael’s manager Rob Kahane stunned the High Court by alleging that Sony tried to bribe him into signing the singer to CBS in the US and that Sony chief Tommy Mottola had links with the Mafi a. Sony vehemently denied the claims, kapish?
