EDITOR’S LETTER PAUL REVEL

Suddenly this summer...

all the details. F News-wise, this summer’s been a scorcher. The shock EU referendum

result in June was immediately followed by the meltdown of the UK’s two main political parties – the Tories made a lightning-quick recovery while Labour’s agonies play out in slow motion. There’s been an almost daily diet of unrest and crises somewhere in the world, combined with elation at the glittering haul of medals from Rio. All in all, a febrile atmosphere of uncertainty. People in the industry we’ve talked to are saying the best thing to do in unpredictable times is diligently and regularly review policies and processes, to ensure that they are as robust as they can be. We’ve tried to reflect this in this issue, from risk management (p42) and communications (p54) to compliance (p50 & p80) and expense management (p93). We also take a comprehensive look at the supply side, from airline investment (p66) and hotel consolidation (p74) to UK rail franchises (p87). Of course, another great way to keep informed and ahead of the game is by sharing knowledge and experience with peers at the key industry events: as well as our own upcoming BBT Forums in London and Dublin (p115), this autumn sees us as official media partner to ACTE (p19) and GBTA (p15) for their annual European conferences. I look forward to catching up with some of you at these events. You may have noticed, our designers have had itchy fingers again, and we are sporting a fresh, new look. I hope you like it – your feedback on all our content is always welcome: drop me a line at editor@buyingbusinesstravel.com – keep in touch!
