LCY GETS GREEN LIGHT FOR £344M EXPANSION
LONDON CITY AIRPORT HAS BEEN GRANTED planning permission from the government for a £344 million expansion.
The City Airport Development Programme includes plans for seven new aircraft stands, a parallel taxiway and terminal extension. The approval comes months after former London mayor Boris Johnson instructed Newham Council to refuse the application as “it does not adequately mitigate and manage its adverse noise impacts”.
The airport said at the time it was “perplexed” and “disappointed” by the decision saying it went against everything the mayor supported and promoted.

LCY said the development will “transform” the airport, boost capacity and enable it to welcome quieter aircraft. The construction phase of the development will create 500 jobs and a further 1,600 on completion.
Under the plans the airport can add approximately 32,000 flights by 2025, movements which are already permitted, helping to unlock more air capacity within London’s airport system in advance of a new runway for the south east of England.
LCY also aims to open up opportunities for airlines flying to longer-haul destinations including the Gulf and Middle East, Turkey, Russia and the east coast of the United States.
