CORPORATE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT WINS INNOVATION AWARD

To make a difference to users, technology has to work not just for the TMC who designed it, but for the travel booker, travel manager and travellers themselves. And in today’s market it has to be compatible with all types of devices – mobiles, tablets and laptops – and it needs to be versatile and intuitive. The GTMC & Travelport Innovation Awards, which are open to all GTMC members, are designed to recognise cutting-edge technology that brings benefit to the business travel sector.

“CORPORATE TRAVEL MANAGEMENT, formerly Chambers Travel, has risen to the occasion with CTM Smart technology suite,” says CEO of the GTMC, Paul Wait. “It runs the gamut of client requirements from traveller tracking and reporting, through risk assessment to data analytics, all accessible through a single portal. In addition, it can be customised according to user, to ensure that people see only the information they require. This is an impressive achievement and CTM is a worthy winner of the award.” Paul Broughton, managing director, UK

& Ireland at Travelport, said: “I wish to offer our congratulations to Corporate Travel Management for winning this prestigious award, which is specifically recognising the company’s innovative CTM Smart

tool. Corporate Travel Management is the sixth Innovation award winner and we are pleased to continue recognising TMCs that are designing original technology which enhances productivity and customer service.” Jon Smiles, European product manager at CTM, explains: “CTM’s Smart is an ‘eco- platform’ of ten interconnected mobile- enabled business travel tools and software applications, ranging from pre-trip approval, fare forecasting and booking to traveller tracking and business intelligence reporting. “Our objective was to give companies of any size unrivalled flexibility in configuring technology to meet their needs at global, regional or national level. “A lot of time and effort goes into designing and developing our technology to cater to our client needs. It is not easy to fulfil this and at the same time, ensure that what we produce is not just a copy-cat version of tools that are already available. We are delighted that CTM Smart has been awarded such a high accolade.”

Why

CTM wanted to create a portfolio of tools that transforms the business travel process, drives efficiency and compliance, influences

traveller behaviour and brings uniformity to the process. For the travel manager, it had to provide everything necessary to maximise cost savings, policy compliance and traveller safety, while complying with duty-of-care obligations.

For travel bookers and arrangers, the technology was designed to save time on approval and booking processes, and help them make the right decisions for traveller and company; and it had to meet travellers’ evolving needs, especially those of the millennial generation, whose high expectations of technology are determined by their ‘always on’ approach to smartphone connectivity.

How

To achieve all these things, CTM started from scratch when designing Smart. Flexibility and versatility are key and the tools had to answer to the requirements of not only three audiences – traveller, travel manager and travel booker – but also be relevant to each client company, regardless of sector or location. CTM Smart does not rely on any third party legacy systems nor does it use traditional tools shoe-horned onto a new platform. The resulting cutting-edge technology is fast, agile and visual. This was a key factor in engaging the millennial generation of business travellers who will make up half the workforce by 2020. The tools are aligned on a single global platform that is fully integrated with a single GDS, giving the same user experience the world over.

What

A single sign-on gives immediate access to Smart’s tools via widgets on a personalised portal, ensuring each person can use only the applications that are relevant. These apps include Smart Approve, which allows authorisation at several levels and deals with on and offline requests. Pre-trip risk assessment is delivered through Smart Risk, which automatically alerts travellers to any incident that might affect their journey, either via timely alerts to individuals or more generic communications to several travellers. Smart Tracker tracks travellers worldwide, is updated in real time, is integrated with itineraries and gives an instant picture of risk in any location as well as allowing quick and simple access to contacting the travellers.

Messaging service Smart Ride is unique to CTM and will notify travellers by SMS or email who are arriving at a destination within
