Wren expands into the USA
WREN KITCHENS is set to expand into the USA this year with its first showroom and US manufacturing facility in north-east Pennsylvania. The 252,000sq ft production and assembly site will be located on the Hanover Industrial Estates, Hanover Township, and is set to open in the spring. There are plans to develop the headquarters in Pennsylvania state as well. The first showroom will be built in Milford, Connecticut, and will have 100 kitchen displays in the 31,465sq ft space. Wren said that this will be the largest showroom in America and it will open in the summer. Wren plans to open several other showrooms throughout the year across north-east Pennsylvania. They will offer a full design service and will also feature 3D virtual reality technology to allow customers to see their designs. A Wren Kitchens spokesperson said: “We’re excited to bring our vertically integrated model to the United States, the largest home-improvement market in the world. It’s imperative to offer our customers a first-class experience, and that starts in our showrooms. We invest heavily in them to offer the latest styles and a truly experiential visit where they can see their kitchen in virtual reality.”
Used Kitchen Exchange carbon neutral calculator
THE USED Kitchen Exchange (UKE) has launched a new online resource for showrooms with its ‘kitchen sustainability calculator’. The new calculator allows partner showrooms to receive a validated figure for the carbon they have offset though working with the Used Kitchen Exchange and encouraging customers to sell their old kitchens.
Helen Lord (pictured), director and
founder, said: “We all know becoming carbon-neutral and even carbon- negative is a must and, with our kitchen sustainability calculator, carbon offset can easily and accurately be measured – further contributing to the work manufacturers are undertaking to reduce the carbon impact of production.” The calculator has been devised in partnership with Liverpool John Moores, Lancaster and Liverpool Universities, with funding from the EU. When a showroom has become a ‘certified partner’, it will be able to view the calculator, as well as accessing extra information on how to reduce their carbon footprint.
“Each kitchen regenerated can April 2020 · 9
recover up to 10 tonnes of carbon, which can be ‘reused’ as a credit towards the new kitchen,” Lord explained. Ten tonnes of carbon is said to be equivalent to four round trips from London to Los Angeles. She added: “In the past four years,
Used Kitchen Exchange has saved over 12,000 tonnes of carbon waste – the equivalent of 5.6 million smartphones being fully charged. These numbers are powerful when shared with showroom customers.”
