Celebrate Echo Park Lake’s beloved floating flowers at this food, music and cultural fest. Dragon-boat races grace the lake alongside—fingers crossed—lotus flower beds in full bloom. The fair celebrates the contributions of Asian- Americans to L.A., and this year, its 37th, honors the Bangladeshi community.

Dance Downtown


+ DJ Nights Partake in a mix of tunes and dancing as the Music Center hosts two rug-cutting events. Echo Park Rising Get an earful of the


Eastside’s burgeoning music scene as this annual neighborhood-wide fest takes over the streets and venues of Echo Park. More than 100 up-and-coming L.A. bands, comedians and film screenings pop up in local haunts like the Echo and the parking lot of Taix French Restaurant. à Various locations (epr.la). Abbot Kinney Festival See Venice’s eclectic Abbot


Kinney Boulevard transform into a mile-long block party during the 33rd annual edition of this late-September festival. The tradition supersizes a typical neighborhood street fair with 300-plus vendors, innumerable food trucks, carnival rides, four live-music stages and a trio of beer gardens. à Abbot Kinney Blvd between Main St and Venice Blvd (310-396-3772, abbotkinney.org). Surf City Surf Dog Watch pups of all breeds and


sizes attempt to catch waves at this annual surf competition in Huntington Beach. Sometimes owners gently assist their pooches, and other times they share a surfboard—either way, it’s absolutely adorable.
