EVENTS THIS SEASON
Bassem Youssef Once dubbed the Jon Stewart
Quinones

cap.ucla.edu). Jan 18 at 8pm; $19–$39.
Middleditch and Schwartz Arguably L.A.’s two finest improv

Ingebretson
Zach Sherwin Sherwin is a self-described word dork
who’s made a name for himself as a comedic rapper, performing original songs onstage and for episodes of Epic Rap Battles of History and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. He achieves the complex feat of getting audiences to think, laugh and thunderously applaud all at once. à See Sherwin in his new weekly web series, Watch Your Language (
projectalpha.com).
Dulcé Sloan Sloan may be young, but her stand-up
is world-weary. Originally hailing from Atlanta, she has seamlessly translated her Southern sensibilities to the SoCal scene. With unflagging confidence, she shares revelations and indignations we can all relate to. à See Sloan live in New Negroes on Jan 21 at this year’s Riot LA festival.
Mary Grill, Matt Hobby and
Cass Bugge Grill, Hobby and Bugge write, produce and host the three-years-running character showcase American Town Hall. Each show is a fictional town hall meeting set in a different city, and all of the show’s guests perform as imagined people making requests or airing grievances. The three hosts play officials leading the meetings, always with goofiness and tenderness. à See American Town Hall at the Copper Still on Jan 26, Feb 23 and Mar 30 at 8pm.

Norm Macdonald The SNL alum can be as
impenetrable and subversive live as he is utterly hilarious; it’s part of what makes this wry comedian one of the greats. à The Ice House, 24 N Mentor Ave, Pasadena (626-577-1894,
icehousecomedy.com). Jan 23, 24 at 8pm; $25–$32.

dork-delighting as always, Oswalt and his carefully crafted rants make a welcome return to a monthly residency at Largo. à Largo, 366 N La Cienega Blvd (310-855- 0350,
largo-la.com). Feb 12, Mar 19 at 9pm; $30.
Iliza Shlesinger The caustic Texan offers up
strong opinions on dating, pop culture and the state of our nation with an unapologetic, come-get- some attitude. à Wilshire Ebell Theatre, 4401 W 8th St (323-939-0126,
ebellla.org/theatre). Feb 14 at 6:30pm; $30.
