Synseal Extrusions extruder of the month

Head offi ce: Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire, UK CEO: David Leng 1980

Founded: Ownership: Employees: Private

Turnover: Around £130m ($171m) 1200

Profi le: Synseal Extrusions began in 1980 as a fabricator of aluminium windows and doors, only later adding PVC products. The company underwent a management buy-out in 2010, and has steadily increased its product offerings to include other products – including aluminium window frames and, last year, composite doors.

Product lines: Synseal has a number of window product lines, including Legend, Synerjy, Sheerframe, Shield and Warmcore. Legend is a 70mm system designed for the commercial market. Synerjy is its ‘fourth generation’ product – and includes a single-leg bead called a ‘j-bead’ that fi ts into the profi le in one movement, which cuts installation time. Warmcore is an aluminium window frame that has a superior thermal performance – thanks to a multi-chambered insulating plastic core.

Factory locations: The company has six manufacturing locations in the UK – totalling more than 1m sq ft of manufacturing space that extruded nearly 39m metres of profi les last year. It recently streamlined its bead tool manufacturing by installing Red.Tooling from Greiner Extrusion. This helped it to boost linear output from 5m/min to 8m/min.
