2016 – Downstream equipment | machinery feature
its manufacturing operations back to North America from offshore. A typical production line required six operators to pack the hoses manually. In order to justify bringing operations back home, the company had to be able to reduce the number of operators packing the hoses. The key requirement was fi nding automatic coilers
that could run in-line at high enough speeds to make operations profi table. After some years of research, the company chose Balzanelli – which could produce six coils per minute for the shortest length of pipe (25ft, or 7.6m). Its high speed coilers featured: a fully controlled hose guiding system; a system to feed the hose onto the reel, which ensuring product integrity; the latest strapping machinery, to ensure high reliability – with different operating modes to fi ne-tune extrusion line outputs.
Balzanelli supplied six turnkey lines to the custom-
ers. The end result was an increase in line speed and a decrease in scrap.
Reducing the number of line operators from six to
two allowed the customer to move production back to North America.
