Chelsea buys Everlast’s siding brand

US-based Chelsea Building Products has acquired the assets for the Everlast Polymeric Cladding System from American Builders and Contractors Supply (ABC). Chelsea now becomes

the sole manufacturer and marketer of the products, which it made for the last seven years under a supply agreement, and sold to Norandex – a division of ABC.

ABC says that its

Norandex business unit will continue to sell Everlast Polymeric Cladding products for Chelsea. Peter Dewil, president and CEO of Chelsea, said: “The acquisition of this composite siding line will allow us to continue to invest in product develop- ment and expand the Everlast offerings.” The products are made

from a proprietary compo- sition of polymeric resins, organic minerals and acrylic colorants. ❙ www.chelseabuildingproducts.com

Polypipe posts record first half performance

UK-based Polypipe has posted increased earnings and profits for the first half of this year. The company, which

produces piping and ventilation systems, announced sales of more than £223m ($292m), an increase of 31% compared to the same period last year. At the same time, pre-tax profits were almost £30m ($39m), a jump of 29%.

David Hall, CEO, said: “We

have delivered another record performance in the first half continuing the strong momen- tum from last year.” Sales in its UK residential

business was up by nearly 17% to top £105m ($138m), while the commercial arm more than doubled sales to nearly £93m ($122m). Profits for these businesses grew by almost 40% and 62%, respec- tively. Revenues from its conti-

nental European business grew by 14% to £31.5m ($41m). The company added that

orders in the first six weeks following the results “re-

mained consistent with the normal seasonal pattern with no discernible signs of weakening following the EU Referendum”. l More than 350 metres of Polypipe’s Ridgistorm-XL large diameter piping system was recently installed at Tate Modern, a leading London museum.

The 750mm and 950mm diameter pipes were used in

an air ventilation system under a new building being added to the south of the existing gallery. Polypipe helped with structural calculations in order to engineer the pipe to an exact stiffness classification of 1.0kN/m². The project called for the

pipe to be manufactured lengths that varied between 1.5 and 6m. The company also pre-fabricated more than 60 unique bends and fittings. Polypipe says that its

unique electro-fusion jointing was an integral factor in the specification of the site’s ventilation system, ensuring regulatory compliance due to its ability to provide greater air tightness and insulation than other forms of jointing. Emma Nicholls, marketing manager at Polypipe, said: “The project was particularly challenging, partly due to the fact that the ventilation system had to be designed to connect to fixed points within the new building, whilst avoiding the structure of the building itself. ❙ www.polypipe.com

Piping division boosts Georg Fischer results

Georg Fischer’s piping systems was the company’s star performer in the first half of the year, outperforming the company as a whole – and other divisions within it. The division, which makes plastic pipes

across a range of industries, saw a 7% growth in sales for the first six months of the year, reaching CHF750m ($780m). This equated to a profit (EBIT) of CHF83m ($86m), a 32% increase – which the

company said was a boost in operating margins from 9% to 11%. The headcount in the piping division

also expanded by 5%, to reach 6,334 employees.

This was mainly due to the takeovers of Hakan Plastik in Turkey, and PT Eurapipe in Malaysia. Through Chinaust – a 50/50 joint

venture between GF Piping Systems and

Lingyun Industrial of China – the company has also acquired two Chinese companies – Shuchang Auto Part and Lingyun Jingran Gas Valve. Overall, Georg Fischer group sales

grew 3% to CHF1,863m ($1,937m), while EBIT rose 20% to CHF153m ($159m). Profitability increased in all three divisions – with GF Piping growing the most. ❙ www.gfps.com
