AMI launches new exhibition and magazine for plastics recyclers

Applied Market Information is launching a new exhibition and a new magazine both focused on the dynamic plastics recycling industry. The first Plastics Recycling

World Exhibition will take place on 27-28 June 2018 in Hall 2 of Messe Essen in Germany. It will be held at the same time as the Compounding World Expo, which will be housed next door in Hall 1 of the modern venue located in Europe’s industrial heartland. Both exhibitions will be free to enter and will feature their own focused seminar and conference programmes. AMI’s new Plastics

Recycling World magazine will be the latest addition to the company’s portfolio of successful digital publications focused on specific sectors of the plastics industry. It will be distributed globally and will be available free-of-charge. The magazine will be edited by

David Eldridge, who was previously Editor of Plastics & Rubber Weekly and Plastics News Europe, and the first edition will be published in June 2017. “The exhibition launch and

the new magazine are a logical progression of AMI’s activities in the plastics recycling sector,” said Andy Beevers, Events and Magazines Director at the company. “AMI publish- es the definitive directory of plastics recyclers in Europe and runs regular conferences on plastics recycling and

sustainability, so it’s a market that we know well.” Matt Wherlock, AMI’s Sales

and Marketing Manager for exhibitions, added: “The Plastics Recycling World Exhibition 2018 will comple- ment the Compounding World Expo 2018, which has already attracted strong industry support since its launch earlier this year. There are clear synergies between the compounding and recycling sectors, and the launch of focused shows running alongside each other in

Germany’s Ruhr Valley has been very well received by key industry players.”

Speaking about the launch

of Plastics Recycling World magazine, Eldridge said: “Recycling is a critically important part of the plastics industry and I am very excited to be editing an international title focused on the latest technolo- gies, projects and legislation in this sector. The new magazine will complement AMI’s established titles focused on the compounding, extrusion and injection moulding markets”.

Ultramid Endure debuts in US Alfa Romeo

BASF announced that its Ultramid Endure polyamide is being used for the first time in North America in two new powertrain applications within the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia. The parts – an air intake manifold with integrated charge air cooler and hot-side turbo duct - were designed in North America. The air intake manifold was developed by Magneti Marelli and is produced in Ultramid Endure D3G7, a 35% glass fibre-reinforced injection moulding grade. It was selected for its ability to withstand a 200°C continuous use temperature.

The hot-side turbo duct was designed by Canada’s ABC Group. It is made using Ultramid Endure D5G3 BM, a 15% glass fibre-reinforced blow moulding grade with high melt strength and good heat ageing resistance. BASF worked with ABC to optimise infra-red welding. The heat stabilised Ultramid Endure

resins offer long-term high heat ageing resistance up to 220°C and can withstand peak temperatures of 240°C. The resins are also said to be characterised by good processability and excllent weld line strength, according to BASF. ❙ www.basf.com
