Songwon signs major one-pack agreements


Songwon is to form a joint venture with pan gulf Holdings of Saudi Arabia and polysys industries of Abu dhabi for the global production and sale of one-pack systems (opS) containing its antioxidants. The deal was announced on 14 december, one day after Songwon revealed that it had acquired Additives Technology greiz (ATg), one of Europe’s leading producers of one-pack systems for the plastics industry. The new joint venture will


be called Songwon Additive Technologies and it will become the parent company for ATg as well as having a series of manufacturing and commercial joint ventures in the middle East. The first manufacturing JV in Saudi Arabia is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2012 and the second one in Abu dhabi should be up and running in early 2014. workers injured at uS compounding plants


Four employees were injured in a flash fire that occurred at polymer partners’ compound- ing plant in Henderson, Kentucky, uSA, on 7 decem- ber. Three of the men currently remain in hospital with two in a critical condition, according to local news reports. The accident is being


investigated by the occupa- tional Safety and Health Administration. polymer partners specialises in black masterbatch and compounds, and it has been suggested that the accident is related to the handling of carbon black. The company has previously been fined uS$26,650 for

The Kentucky public protection cabinet has released a series of citations issued to the polymer partners plant between 2004 and 2008 covering a range of health and safety violations. These include the use of power- operated trucks in atmospheres containing hazardous concen-
