news clariant plans Exolit expansions


clariant is to build a third Exolit op production line at its facility in Hürth-Knapsack in germany to meet growing demand for the non-halogen- ated flame retardants. The new line is scheduled to come on stream in 2013. The company is also


evaluating options in Asia to further increase capacity with the target to be on-stream in 2014 or 2015. The third german line will


result in a tripling of capacity since Exolit op growth plans were first announced during K 2010. The first phase of these plans involved debottlenecking


the existing full-scale plant at Hürth-Knapsack. The second phase is the construction of a second line at the facility, which is due to be completed by mid-2012 and will double effective capacity. The expansion programme


is in response to growing demand for the Exolit op phosphinate-based flame retardants, particularly from the electrical and electronics industry. michael grosskopf, who is head of the additives business unit at clariant international, explained: “in line with the increasing environmental and safety
