LUX9610, launched in early 2011, and LUX2614 and LUX2114, both introduced in October, meet UL Yellow card listing at 1.5 mm in all colours, and are halogen-free. They also provide high relative thermal index (RTI) values of up to 125/115/125 to support the higher temperatures that are seen in LED lighting.


Formulating for fire resistance PolyOne GLS Thermoplastics Elastomers launched new additions to its OnFlex HFFR (halogen- free flame retardant) 300 TPE series earlier this year. The OnFlex HFFR 310 and 320 product lines were developed to provide an alternative to traditional PVC jacketing and insulation for consumer electronic applications. HFFR 310 is designed for cable jacketing and HFFR 320 is for flexible power cord insulation, according to Charles Page, global TPE product man- ager. “Our focus is on power cords, cables and connec- tors for the consumer electronics market,” he says. Both TPE product lines are available in black and


colourable grades and boast an excellent balance of properties, including superior flexibility, kink resist- ance, good mar and chemical resistance and tempera- ture resistance to 105o


C.


RTP is currently developing a new line of DecaBDE- free/RoHS-compliant PP flame retardant compounds


that it says will offer comparable cost and lower specific gravity compared to existing Deca-BDE products. Fedor will not comment on the chemistry used, but he does note that the company is working daily on developing new products that


combine other technologies in conjunction with flame retardants to meet the require- ments of niche applications, such as wear- resistant, conductive and/or reinforced compounds.
