Joffrey Ballet: Bold Moves
The Joffrey’s 60th winter season kicks off with the final production of Robert Joffrey’s 1987 Nutcracker (December 4 to 27; a new staging by Christopher Wheeldon will debut in December 2016). This will be followed by a mixed repertory of three modern works. The evening includes two previously seen pieces: RAkU, by San Francisco Ballet resident choreographer Yuri Possokhov with music by Shinji Eshima, depicts a love triangle between a
Japanese emperor, his wife and an jealous monk. Jirí Kylián’s 1981 Forgotten Land portrays couples in varying stages of relationships as they dance to Benjamin Britten’s Sinfonia da Requiem. The main attraction is a world premiere by British choreographer Ashley Page. The as-yet-untitled piece will be set to Concentric Paths, a violin concerto by Thomas Adès.
Bold Moves plays the Auditorium Theatre Feb 10–21.
