the game at the Butcher & Larder. From cattle to pigs and lamb, you’ll find a crazy array here. The whole-animal deal means you’ll find plenty of kidneys, hearts and tongues, but you’ll also find regular ground beef and chicken breasts, too. Spend a few minutes talking to your butcher about

for beef. It gets full quarters of cattle delivered, and the butcher can cut your meat to just the right thickness, depending on what you need. Butcher Bill Begale says to bring in your recipe and ask questions. You’ll also find obscure cuts like boned pot roasts along with a variety of house-smoked and house- made sausages. SARAH GRUENEBERG, WHO’S been winning over Chicago from the kitchen of her Monteverde Restaurant and Pastificio in the West Loop, has a few tricks up her sleeve when it comes to fall eating. The Top Chef alum and self-proclaimed lush told Time Out Chicago where to find her when the weather turns and she isn’t firing up the stove in her Italian kitchen. Here’s some of her favorite fall- inspired fare—plus a few year-round faves.
To warm the belly Grueneberg loves Asian soup, especially anything at High Five Ramen (112 N Green St) or Urbanbelly (1400 W Randolph St).
Spot to kick back after a long shift “The Beer Bistro (1061 W Madison St): It’s right down the street. They are so nice and really hospitable.”
When it’s pie time If she can’t get her hands on her grandmother’s homemade dewberry pie, Bang Bang Pie and Biscuits (2051 N California Ave) satisfies her sweet tooth. She also loves the royal meat pies at Pleasant House Pub (2119 S Halsted St).
Off the beaten path “Xi’an Cuisine (225 W Cermak Rd) for a cheap flatbread while watching Asian soap operas.”
Classic night off hang “The oyster bar at Shaw’s Crab House (21 E Hubbard St). The service there might be some of the best service in the city, and the martinis are delicious! The oysters are shucked right in front of you. I love their clam chowder. It’s my happy place.” Betsy Kennedy
